French military source said today
a steady stream of arms is reach
ing rebel forces in Algeria from
across the Libyan border.
The informant said In an inter
view the munitions included Brit
ish-manufactured grenades which
were shown by serial number to
have come from Egyptian army
depots, other arms, ne said, were
among some 300,000 weapons aban
doned by German Field Marshal
Erwln Rommel's army when it
surrendered in Tunisia during
World War II.
The source said Tunisian nation
alists spirited these arms south to
(he Libyan frontier. Others . were
hidden In dumps and desert re
gions of Tripolitania during the
war.
He said the rebels were trying to i
give themselves the appearance of
regular troops by wearing Ameri
can surplus Army uniforms picked
up In Tunisia.
The Informant said that Algerian
rebels were being trained by Mo
hammed el Kcttabl, brother of the
famed lord of the riff, Abd El
Krlm.
He said they were receiving
commando training at three camps
in Egypt.
Rebel forces captured a 13-man
French garrison and killed six
only 20 miles outside Algiers be
fore dawn yesterday. The remain
ing seven men were still reported
missing.
The daring attack came several
hours after a French armored pa
trol killed 16 rebels In an assault
near Meskian, about fro miles from
the Tunisian border.

Tomb Opening

open a tomb in a Kent County
church In an effort to determine
If Christopher Marlowe wrote the
plays attributed to William Shakes
peare. After a hearing in Chiselhursl's
mellow old St. Nicholas Church.
Chancellor Percy Lamb of the dio
cese of Rochester ruled Ma). John
Marsham Townshend, lord of the
manor of Scadbury. could open the
18th century tomb believed to con
tain the body of Marlowe's patron
Thomas Walstngham and others of
his family.
Partisans of Marlowe hope to
find Inside papers that will bear
out this theory :
Marlowe, a rising dramatist and
poet, fell under suspicion of trea
son and Queen Elizabeth's privy
council ordered his arrest. To nv'
his protege. Wnlslngham arranged
tavern siaooing and had a farm
er's body Identified as Marlowe's.
Then he secluded the poet at one
of his estates, where Marlowe
turned out 'Hamlet." "King Lear"
and the rest of the dramas. To
get the plays produced. Walstng

believed a similar mission to Sec
retary of - State Dulles.
Byroade also was expected to
fill in the State Department on
reported Egyptian insistence that
the World Bank must ease its
terms before Cairo will accept a
