niture, finds a new use In wall

drab wall or a child's room or
three dimensional "sculptures" or
lump banes can be made, using a
home pjpane torcb.
According to the Bernz-O-Mulic
people, for a wall decoration you
need: paper, pencil, board, nails,
hammer, wrought iron wire, wire
cutter, clamp, solder, paint and
the torch.
How to do it:
1. Draw outline of shape desired
em paper and attach to board.
Drive nails Into board at close
Intervals around edite of design.
2. Bend wire around nails to ob-!
tain shape, healing- wire with
torch to make It easy to bend. Clip
"wire where necessary.
3. Camp ends to be soldered
Solder with torch. Also join any
metal washers, etc., that may be
tmrt of desicn.
4. Sand soldered joints and paint
uith flat paint.
For home repairmen who like to
do it nil themselves, even on metal
fixtures and wiring, there are two
aiew appliances on the market.
The new Weller soldering gun,
just for the home repairman or
hobbyist, can be used for repairing
downspouts, working on hi-fi sets
or putting in light switches.
With it, two attachments can be
obtained a cutting tip and a
Finoothing one. The cutter will re
move hardened putty, the smooth
ing Up will seal home freezer bags.

f If you have unsightly radiators
and many homes still do
they are welcome in wintei for
their warmth, but an eye-soje, all
the same. Tney really don'; do
much for the decorating scheme
of the room, do they?
A few pieces of western pine
lumber, some Inexpensive grille
work, anil n hammer and saw will
transform that eye-sore into an
attractive addition to any room.
Choose one of the western pine
woods in a ten-inch width. For a
natural or stained finish, choose n
knotty or rich-grained species. If
you wish to paint your radiator
cover to mutch the room, a clear
or knotty grade can be used. Be
fore painting knotty lumber apply
a clear knot sealer.
Use regular square-cut boards
for the top and side pieces and
tnngue-and-groove lumber for front
panels. If you have the tools, mitre
nil edges to conceal the joints.
Otherwise place the front panels
the full width, with the top and
two end boards Inset.

Folding Doors Save Space
Folding doors. Ideal space sav
ers and room dividers, can be in
stalled by a homeowner in a mat
ter of minutes.
A folding door can save up to
eight square feet of space when
it is used as an interior or closet
door. It can save yards of "vis
ual space" when It Is used as a
temporary room divider.
Accordofold, a door made by the
American Bamboo Company, is
available in a variety of colors
and sizes. Made of vinyl plastic,
it can be cleaned wiUi a damp
cloth.
Do-it-yourself installation consists
of six basic steps, according to the
manufacturers.
1. Center and fit metal track to
the top of the opening. Mark off
the screw holes, .and punch holes
to start screws.
2. Place door on flat surface
and slice nylon glides on door into
track. Keep folds partially open
until center of track is reached.
3. Hold door and track as unit,
then attach track to the top of
opening. Attach center screws lirst.
Center the door on track.
4. To fasten door in place, drill
four holes in the anchor flap and
screw into wall. Use countersunk
washer screws.
5. Close door, making sure that
lead rail Is plumb, and mark off
on wall the top and the bottom of
nylon friction latch.
Remove latch from door han
dle and screw to the wall between
markings.
Total time: about the same it
takes to read instructions, four to
seven minutes.
Tools required: a pencil, an awl
or push drill, and a screw driver.
Best results are assured when Ac
cordofold wax is used on inides or
the track as a lubricant for the
nylon glider.
Operating freely and silently, the
Accordofold door folds to 16 per
cent of its extended length. It is
available in a lnrge variety of
sizes and colors. It is priced as
much as 60 per cent less than
standard doors.
To prevent mildew, don't bundle
wet fabrics with dry ones in the
laundry bag or hamper.

There's no need to dream about the past when warm,
charming kitchens such as this are available. Modern work-saving
appliances are combined here with practical western pine
cabinets to spell gracious living.

lost for a number of years. Our

by itself, or teamed with old brick,
stone, or provincial wallpaper,
we've regained the rustic charm
and warmth of Grandmother's
kitchen.
Today our pine paneling is just
as beautiful as Grandmother's. But
we have the advantage of so much
more variety and patterns of pan
cling due to modern ndvanccs in
the lumber industry. The western
pine woods, for example, are com
prised of ten different species
from light to dark. Ill knotty or
clear grades, and in a variety of
milled patterns. Added to that are
the m-dern stnlns. paints, and
other finishes which give us a
choice of line and color that Grand
mother never dreamed of.
In kitchen convenience we are
also way ahead. We've given up
some of the -space of Grandmotn- I
er's kitchen, but with it has gone
much of the work. Our kitchens
are compact. They are planned
scientifically for step-saving con
venience. We've largely given up the wolk-
ularity of western pine paneling
has ushered in a new concept of
storage. It has made possible whole
walls of decorative cabinets. It has
also erased size limitations of
cabinets. Pine cabinets can be
built to fit any space fiom -a
large double-door china cabinet to
a tiny spice receptacle above a
built-in oven.
Today it's Grandmother who
should be envious. For while cap
turing the charm of past genera
tions, our kitchens provide effi
ciency and convenience which spell
new-found freedom for the modern
housewife.
