mas package was mailed from the
California city but the address
was so mutilated that only two

'Shawnee." The postal workers
made a few calls and the package
finally arrived at Its destination
for Mrs, Dovie Wise of Shawnee,

Largest Cave
Found In South
ATLANTA Iffi Spelunkers the
explorers of caves have discov
ered the world's largest known
cave in Kentucky, with more than
32 miles of passages, the Ameri
can Assn. for the Advancement of
Science was told today.
It Is the Floyd Collins' Crystal
Cave, which actually turns out to
be a nucleus of a cave system of
record-breaking extent, said Roger
W. Brucker, and David B. Jones,
Yellow Springs, Ohio;- WU)iam T.
Austin, Cave City, Ky. and Brother
a. Nicholas, FSC. Cumberland,
Md. ,i V .'
Exploration his uncovered many
miles of cave passages. Including
connections 'between crystal:- cave
and other, nearby caves.
"Passages already surveyed or
explored "lii the system now total
32 miles, making It the largest
known' the explorers said, and
there 'are probably vet undiscov
ered passages. The second largest
cave is Honpen. In Switzerland.
The Floyd- Collins Cave was
named alter a young explorer who
was trapped vin the cave and died
before rescueis could reach him.

Hale, who disappeared Saturday
on a flight up the Rogue River
Valley, was located Monday at a
resort lodge, near which his plane
had crashed.
Bill Oeer. a passenger In the
missing plane, was located at his
own lodge on Paradise Bar where
Hale had dropped him off prior to
Uie crash. , ,
Hale was 'Injured in the'erackup
near tho Blark Bar lodge and was
being cared for by two lodge cus
todians who hnd pulled him from
his wrecked plane.
Extent of his Injuries was not
determined Immediately. H o w
ever, a message was radioed to
Hale's wife that he was not badly
hurl.
Ho was located at (he lodge by
Glenn Woodvidgc. Rogue Rive
boatman, who had been searching
the river since the two men were
reported overdue on a flight to
make aerial photographs of Geer's
flooded lodge. Hale, a veteran
pilot, Is manager of the Grants

Airman Spends
Day On Ledge
TUCSON, Ariz, t' Christmas
came late for Donald Ellison of
Tucson. The 28-year-old airman
spent 24 hours on a two-loot ledge,
lighting off sleep ko he wouldn't
tumble Into a canyon.
Ellison was rescued yesterday
by a four-man team using ropes.
After his leg muscles unkinked,
he was all right.
It all began when Ellison, his
wife, and another couple drove Into
the rugged Catulina Mountains as
Iheir Christmas turkey simmered
in the oven and went for a walk.
Ellison took a shortcut and sud
denly found himself on a tiny
ledge. A sheer rock wall led up
wards and there was a 175-foot
drop to the base of the cliff.
Frozen with fear! he crouched
down and faced the cliff.
"I didn't sleep. I caught myself
dozing twice but got hold of my
self before falling off. I was
scared." he said.
Rescuers got close to Ellison
early yesterday but couldn't get
him off. Then two newspapermen,
reporter Dean Prlchard and pho
tographer Jack Sheaffer of the
Arizona Daily Star In Tucson, got
within 100 feet.
They shouted for help and two
more men came. Tney lowerea
rones and let Ellison down. His
legs were so weak from crouching
for 24 hours that tney DucKieu un
rler him.

Approval Seen For
New Soviet Budget
MOSCOW (AT Quick approval by
the Soviet Parliament was anti
cipated today lor the Kremlin's 1956
budget promising a cut in defense
spending.
Approval of the budget Is one of
the two main items of business for
the special session of the Supreme
Soviet (Parliament) which opened
here yesterday. The other is a re
port by Premier Bulganin and
Communist Party Secretary Nikita
S. Khrushchev on their tour of
South, Asia. '

other Soviet leaders looking on.
Finance Minister Aiseny Zverev
presented the outline of the 1956
linancial statement to the 1.400
delegates early in their opening
meeting. Zverev s speech lacked
tho criticism aimed in previous
years at "capitalist and imperialist
warmongers."
The budget, slitihlly higher than
that outlmed in February for 1955,
estimated expenditures at 568.1100.-
ooo.ooo rubles and revenues at
591,900,000,000. The 1955 budget
put expenditures at 563.482,000.000
rubles and revenues at 590,192,
000.000. The finance minister added, how
ever, that a comparison of the
j'igures for the two years was mis
leading because wholesale Drice
had been cut considerably during
loo.
Zverev said defense annrooria-
tions lor the coining year would be
1021, billion rubles, just over 13
per cent of the total expenditure
and nearly 10 per cent below thp
1955 estimate of 112,122,000,000
rubles.
(The Russians value the ruble
arbitrarily at 25 cents, but its pur
chasing power Is substantially less.
However, the actual Soviet de
fence appropriation cannot be esti
mated accurately since many
items which would be included
under that category In other coun
tries are hidden under other head
ings. The U.S. government Is spend
ing for defense at the rate of
about 34 li billion dollars annually,
or about 55 per cent of its total ex
penditures. Zverev declared the saving in
the military budget would be used
to help advance the national econ
omy, education and culture. He
recalled the cut of 640.000 In
Russia's armed forces, announced
earlier this year, and Russia's de
cision to return to Finland the
Forkkala naval base. All these
moves, he said, showed Russia's
concern for reducing world ten
sion. Appropriations for heavy indus
try were cut from 190 billion

building several atomic power sta
tions which can meet a capacity
demand of 50.000 or 100,000 kilo
watts. Foreign 1 visitors already
have been admitted to a small
5.000-kilowatt plant in operation
near Moscow.
