Early Mailers Get Thanks
Postmaster Chester L. Langslet- collection schedules have been re-
expressed his appreciation today
for the fine response from individ
uals and business firms to his "Mail
Early for Christmas" pleas. He
went on to say that the period be
tween now and December 25 Is
bound to be the heaviest of the
year for all postal employes.
The terrific stream ot out-going
Christmas cards and gifts is now
near full flood with a like torrent
of incoming mail becoming great
er every day. In the next few days
the postmaster expects the Christ
mas mail load to hit its neak and
break last year's December rec
ord
He said "I know the time has
passed to talk about mailing early.
iPor the inevitable last minute
mailers, get them in the mail to
day! Even one day's delay at this
critical time may mean disappoint
ment lor a loved one on Christmas."
There Is still time for local de
liveries but all Christmas cards
should be sent first-class mail to
insure prompt delivery,
To take care of the last-minute
rush, which always begins when
the incoming Christmas mail is
greatest, the Post Office will re
main open from 8:30 a.m. until
5:30 p.m., including Saturday, De
cember 17. Regular delivery and

Postmaster Langslet said today,
"Now that we are coming close to
the end of the big rush, I want to
express my thanks for the fine
cooperation from everyone. The
1955 'Mail Early for Christmas'
campaign will be a rousing suc
cess if everyone will just keep up
the good work. This year, on
Christmas Eve, I'd like to see ev
ery mall bag empty and every post
office employe relaxing at home."
Ailing Tractor Wastes Power
"An ailing, sluggish tractor can
waste a lot ot power," says Wink
Ralston, service manager at J. W.
Kerns, International Harvester
dealer,
It's poor economy to put off a
tractor check-up this time of year.
The longer an owner waits, the
more expensive the tractor's oper
ation becomes. Power (alls off, tuel
costs go up, and work takes long
er. The tractor may also miss,
start hard and build up carbon de
posits around the valvea. Most
tractors, the way they are used
around here, need a check-up ev
ery season.
"It's the best way of finding and
fixing up little things that stand
in the way of lop performance."
The toughest part, according to
Mr. RaUum, Is getting owners to
schedule -check-ups during slack
times so thai they can be sure
of top tractor performance when
there's lots of work to be done.
Mr. Ralston has found by expe
rience that the part of the engine
where regular chock-up Is most
important Is the ignition system.
Breaker point sand spnrk plugs
should be' cleaned and the liming
checked, too.
A complete check-up also Includes
the fuel system, Mr. Rnlslon adds.
Another Important point, ot course,
is the carburetor. It should be
cleaned, inspected and adjusted.
And the fuel lines should be thor
oughly cleaned.
The biggest value in a check-up
today, according to Mr. Ralston,
is the way It puis a tractor in
shape to help the owner do the
most possible work. "It's Just good
common sense to take a little time
ahead of the work season to make
sure the tractor can run at full
capacity, doing more work faster."
