Xmas Play, i
"The Christmas Voice" will be
given by the young people anri
adults of the Assembly of Ood
Church, Eighth and Oak streets.
Sunday night, December 18 at 1:30
p.m. Vera May and Delores Hub
bell are directing the hour-long
production. ,
The play will depict the Brown
family on Christmas Eve and the
results of their selfishness.

Peterson Pupils
Plan Christmas Show
Students of Peterson School will
present their annual Christmas pro
gram for parents and friends in
the school auditorium at 7:4b on
Tuesday, December 20.
The program, divided into two
parts, will be put on by the fourth,
tilth and sixth grades.
The first part, "Mr. Mouse En
joys Christmas," .will be a skit.
The second part will be a Christ
mas tiier.io, ' In Blhlehem Town."
The public Is Invited.

dent Elsenhower pays back some
Colorado hospitality today, show
ing his old friend and flsblng com
panion Aksel Nielsen, around the
Elsenhower farm.
Nielsen. Denver mortgage bank
er who owns the Rocky Moun
tain fishing lodge where. the Presi
dent has often stayed, was the sec
ond old friend to drop In In two
days.
Eisenhower had lunch yesterday
with Clifford Roberts, the New
York investment broker who was
on his way where the President
would be going now but for his
iheart attack to Auuusla (Ga.) Na
tional Golf Club. Roberts Is board
chairman of Augusta National.
The President s brother Dr. Mil
ton 8. Elsenhower also visited the
farm yesterday and stayed -over-night.
He is president of Pennsyl
vania Slate University. Several
White House staff members also
were dinner guests of the chief ex
ecutive,. . , t
Gettysburg gave a Christmas
serenade to the President and
members of his party last night a
400-volce tribute In Lincoln Square
as part of the town's annual Christ
mas tree lighting ceremony.
The Eisenhowers did not attend
but various other members of the
presidential entourage acknow
ledged the greeting from a bal
cony of the Gettysburg Hotel.
Strike Enters

when the first plants closed last
Oct. 17. .
Wages, time studies of workers
lobs and length 0$ contract are the
big issues. Both sides agree that
recent negotiations have made no
progress toward agreement on the
key Issues.
Westmghouse says the dispute ir
costing some 55.000 striking em
ployes $950,000 a day in wages.
About 40.000 other employes are
furloughed.
The company declines to com
ment on its own losses but sources
close to the operation estimate pro
duction losses so far will exceed
150 million dollars. That doesn't
include maintenance costs in the
40 struck plants.
The unions are the AFL-CIO In
ternational Union of Electrical
Workers IUE) and the independ
ent United Electrical Workers
UE). Each is conducting separate
negotiations.
Both unions have been demand
ing 15-ccnt hourly wage hikes for
workers who were earning an aver
age of $2.10 an hour. Yesterday,
however, the UE offered to ac
cept a temporary 3 per cent raise
with provisions for further wage
negotiations after the men return
(to work. The company rejected
this offer.
The company has offered both
unions a five-year contract with
annual raises which the firm says
will total a minimum of 23'2 cents
an hour. Both the UE and the IUE
refused. Seventeen smaller unions
signed; raising to about 44.000 the
number of employes under five

Infiltration
Hearings Set,
WASHINGTON UP) The- Senate
Internal Security subcommittee
today ordered further public hear
ings starting Jan. 4 in ay inquiry
into alleged Communist infiltration
of the press, radio and television.
Chairman Eastland D-Miss
said in a statement that, "numer
ous witnesses are to be called,
most of whom already have been
examined in executive sessions.'
Eastland described the new hear
ings as "following up the inlor
mation developed last summer in
the questioning of Winston Burdett
and other former members of the
Communist cell in the Brooklyn
Eagle during the late 1930s."
Burdett. Columbia Broadcast
ing System newsman, testified that
he had joined a Communist unit
1937. He named a dozen other
former employes of the newspaper
whom he- said he had known then
as fellow Communists.
Besides those on the Brooklyr
Eagle, Burdett named 10 others he
said he had known or believed to
be Communists in the 1937-40 period.
