The 45-year-old electrician has
admitted the bomb-slaying of Port
land attorney Kermit Smith and
the hearing must decide only his
degree of guilt.
Defense attorney Nicholas Gran
el described his client as a man
who "missed the boat" all his life
and who fell In with Marjorle
Smith at a highly critical moment
of his life. Just after divorcing
his second wife. .
Two psychiatrists told the herr
ing today tnnt they felt Wolf
could not have committed the mur
der without some "outside influ
ence." Dr. John W. Evans said Wolf
was a quiet and humble person.
He said his love interest was vrry
instrumental in motivating the
murder of Smith.
Earlier, a Portland detective
testified that Wolf was extremely
cooperative during the murder in
vestigation and that he held off
his confession a few iiours ap
parently to protect Mrs. Smith.
Mrs. Smith was recently exon
erated by a Jury in a trial at Mc
