Funeral services for I. F. Rodg'

O'Halr's Memorial Chapel. Mr.
Rodgers died December 10 at Hill
tide Hospital. Ho was a native of
Arkamos.

The winter mail tournament will
run for five months, including No
vember.

School Workshop
Held In Weed
WEED A workshop held in the
Weed Elementary School auditor
ium Friday afternoon, December
2, was attended by representa
tives from seven Siskiyou County
Schools.
Dr. Hal Bishop and Mrs. Cecelia
Scott, Chico State College fac
ulty members with the physical
education department, presented 8
demonstration in rhythm, creative
and folk dancing.
The workshop was arranged by
Jeiry Edwards, of the Siskiyou
County superintendent of schools
office in Yrcka.
Wind BUws Over
Christmas Tree
WEED A high wind last week
snapped off a huge Christinas tret
at the base which had been erect
ed and partly decorated by em
ployes of Long-Bell Lumber Com
pany for the employes' children's
Christmas party to be held on De
cember 20.
Several large branches were
broken but the tree will be re
paired ar.d set up again on the
company office lawn area.

reported Monday the reduction of
Soviet armed forces by 640.000
men promised In August has
now been completed. The broad
cast confirmed Western specula
tion that a chief purpose of the
troop cut was to aid the Kremlin's
big drive to increase Soviet agri
cultural output. The ex-soldiers
have been "transferred to agri
culture," the Radio reported.
ARMS WEEK
DAMASCUS, Syria. iPi The
first day of "Arms Week" in Da
mascus brought in one million dol
lars Saturday for the purchase of
arms for the Syrian army. Com
mittees in charge expect to collect
10 million dollars during the week
long campaign.
Jail Death
Told Here
Ralph McKinley George, 60-year
old Klamath Reservation farmer,
who died In the Klamath County
Jail, was a victim of alcoholism.
Dr. George H. Adler, county cor
oner, said Monday.
George was found apparently un
conscious on the floor by Jailer
Loyd Newlun Sunday afternoon.
The Jailer summoned Sheriff Mur
ray Britton, wno in turn cauea
Dr. Adler.
Dr. Adler pronounced George
dead. He said death was due to
heart attack brought on by al
coholism. The body was taken to
Ward's Klamath Funeral Home.
George had been booked at th
jail Saturaay afternoon following
his arrest on a drunkenness
charge by state police.
Kefauver Sees Calif; Freeze-Out
LOS ANGELES (UP) Sen. Es
tes Kefauver (D-Tenn says some
California Democratic party lead
ers are trying to "freeze me out"
of the state's presidential primary
In June.
The senator made the charge
last night before addressing a din
ner of the Jewish National Fund.
He said, however, despite the
"freeze out, I don't discourage
easily."
Kefauver said since arriving in
California he has noted strong
support in the state for the candi
dacy of Adlal Stevenson. But, he
said, he has "the same grass root
support that I had before (19531,
maybe a little more."
When questioned by reporters
concerning whether he will become
a candidate for the Democratic
nomination, he said his political
plans will be announced "shortly,"
not later than Jan. IS.
"If I run for anything, it will
be lor president not vice presi
dent." he added.
In his speech before several hun
dred dinner guests. Kefauver said
if the Communist nations continue
to supply arms to Egypt, "we may
have no alternative but to enable
Israel to buy sufficient arms to
protect her sovereignly."
Kefauver declared In criticizing
(he government's foreign policy in
the Middle East that "the United
States needed a real foreign poli
cy one neither obscured in mean
ingless slogans nor rendered Inef
ficient from the start by penny,
pinching concern with balancing
the budget (or protective political
reasons."
