Moore To Call

Santa Cruz County announced he
will call the Grand Jury into' ses
sion next week for a new investi
gation of vice.
The 28-year-old Moore made
this announcement yesterday after
pleading innocent to an accusation
of misconduct in office. Superior
Judge James L. Atlcridge Bet
Jan. 19 for trial.
The accusation was returned last
month by the same Grand 'Jury
that Mooie plans to call into ses
sion for the new Invest Ration,
. Foreman Carlylc Blodvrett said
Moore has not yet asked him to
convene the jury.
Moore declined to discus in de
tail the new material he claims to
have unearthed, except lo say it
concerned "vice, bribery and ex
tortion.' Meanwhile, his attorneys began
issuing subpenas to a la rue group
of county residents to support his
denial of the misconduct charges.
McKay Adopts
'Goon' Label

Stevenson's remark In a New
York speech had been. "A mem

son was referring to McKay.
McKay had other comments on
Stevenson:
"He's just a little man locking
for a job somewhat shopwarn, but
still looking for a Job.
"He's a fine one to talk of Cabi
net members .splitting the nation.
The 'Democrats did more to make
this nation class conscious and
divide it with their NeW Deal than
has anything else In the country's
history.
"Stevenson needn't worry about
the country splitting Into classes.
There will be none of that under
President Eisenhower's leader
ship." Asked if that he meant he knew
the President would run again, Mc-
Kav said:
"No. I don't. But President Ei
senhower is the strongest man In
'.he world today for peace. He
knows Uiat and it is he who must
decide.
"There are only a couple of men
who don't want Elsenhower to run

Patterson Asks
Shrunk Opinion
SALEM Ml Gov. Patterson has
asked Atty. Gen. Thornton tor an
opinion on whether the governor
should remove Terry Schrunk,
Multnomah County sheriff, from
office.
The governor said he doesn't
believe the law required him to.
but he is asking Thornton's opinion
to try to settle tile matter.
The question was raised after a
circuit court Jury recently awarded
a Giants Pass woman a S12.870
ludgment against Schrunk. She
said Schiunk's staff had failed to
serve a summons in a damage
case.
Schrunk is bonded a. $10,000. A
state law says. "The governor
shall declare vacant the office of
every officer required by law to
execute an official bond wnenever
a Judgment Is obtained against
such officer for a breach of the
conditions of the bond."
But Schrunk appealed from the
circuit court decision, and William
Langley. Multnomah County dis
trict attorney, said he believed
that stopped action on the bond.
There has been considerable
political speculation on the case.
