V JL Soroptimists Plan Program - Christmas project were di' cussed at the business meeting ol the Soroptimist Club Thursday noon et the Wuiema Hotel with Presi dent Dena Bsckes in the chair. It was decided to send Christ mas gifts to the girls at Hillcrest School for Oirls at Salem. Each member is asked to bring at least one wrapped gift for a box which the project committee will send to the school for Christmas. It was commented by Coral Sabo and Olive Cornetl, both of whom have visited the school, that costume jewelry, cosmetics and pretty arti cles of wearing apparel are par ticularly appreciated by the girls. The roster of members of the sister club at Brighton. England, has been received and names were distributed of the 80 members. Local Soroptimists are sending Christmas cards with a favorite recipe enclosed to their British friends. A previous gift of a check was sent to the president s fund of that club. The corresponding secretary was directed to send a card to Mrs. Ardith Bowne, past president of the Lakeview Soroptimist Club, who underwent surgery at. Klamath Valley Hospital this week. Members are reminded to bring their Venture Girls' gift and Items for the food sale to the Thursday meeting, December 15. Safety Code Hearing Told A public hearing to consider the adoption of a safety code for elec trical transmission and distribution systems and facilities will be held in Portland December. 15, it was announced in Salem by the State Industrial Accident Commission. The meeting will be held in room 36 of the state office building In Portland and will begin at 10 a.m. It has been called to determine public reaction to various provi sions of the code before final adop tion and publication. SIAC officials said the proposed code is a compilation oi the re sults of many meetings of a conv mittee which was representative of the electrical industry of Oregon. It is expected to be of material assistance In establishing uniform practices necessary to a high de gree ol. saiety in electrical worn. Local Residents Win Contest .
