The laundry room, which may
be a part of the kitchen, can be
considered wim it in tne aecorai
ing scheme. If the laundry room
la visible from the kitchen, it's a
smart Idea to use the same color
plan.
If the new range and refrlgera
tor and dishwasher or washer
and Ironer are white, you'll
probably want to use color to en
hance the gleaming beauty of the
appliances and at the same time
relieve the room of the antiseptic,
hospital effect. A lot, of time Is
spent In the kitchen and you'll
want it to be cheeriul and livable.

and the appliances are white, too.

chocolate brown or charcoal walls,

of Electrical Dealer Magazine,

A comparison of the lists showed
at once that type of fuel Is not
of major Importance at this time.
You can have almost any feature
you desire In either a gas or
an electric range.
Johannsen cites built-in ovens,

The gas report stresses auto
matic controls the on-off clock
control, temperature control, timed
shut-off, timed turn-down.
But the experts keep right on

range you get today la far differ
ent from anything you could buy

lists are grills, rottsserles, deep
well cookers. And Johannsen says.
"Cooking Is mora fun and food
tastier."
On down the lists are thermo
stat shut-olfa, oven windows, built
in griddles, decp-fat fryers, hinged
cooking tops. Some people want
two ovens in their range. Some
want larger ovens.
The ranges serve lo tell the
story. Here are basic appliances.
Even old people have been fa.
miliar with them since lniancy.
But American know-how has so
changed Uie character of a lnnul
lar thing that It offers new hori
zons in American living.
But ranges are only one of many
Hems that U.S. families aie acquiring.
Good Wiring Is Boost

Federal Housing Administration

are still being built with wiring
systems which could not, take care
of a full quota of appliances.
The FHA has a strong Influence
on most builders, although It can
not control the operations of thr
few who bihld without seeking gov
ernment guaranteed mortgages.
Bankera and utility men point
out that new homes without ade
quate wiring might well have a
considerably reauoed value in the
future. Even Uie fact that the wir
ing could be Improved alter the
houae was built might turn buyers
awuy. They could prefer to avoid
the trouble of putting In e(I-ctive
wiring, even though they could get
the home with poor wiring for
enough lesa to take care of the
changes.
You can now get paint that will
mix with, or match approximately,
your appliances and give a pro
fessional decorator's look after
you've put it on yourself.
A perfect match Isn't possible
because the appliance colora are
applied by spray and baked. Their
sheen and glow make them ap
pear different from the brushed
on product, regardless of color
accuracy. However, It Is possible
to get paints accurate enough for
use near the appliances.
Green and yellow are top favor
ites, both in appliance and over
all color plan. Pink Is becoming
increasingly popular, and blues
and browns are always good.
Shades range from palest yel
ow, beige and gray to bluea and
greens, cocoa, pink, red copper.
And if you can't find exactly what
you have In mind, you can al
ways mix your own paint for that
excitingly different look.
A group of New York artists
have created three colors actu
ally new shades of the primary
colors that, they Insist will not
clash with anything. This outdates
white, they say, as the only true
"neutral" color for decorating.
Their colors are called dawn yel
low, meridian blue and sunset
copper. Several manufacturers are
using these colora on their appli
ances. If you're on a do-it-yourself
kick, painting walls, ceiling, cabi
nets and kitchen furniture your
self will keep the price of decora
tion at a minimum while allowing
a maximum of imagination range.
Just don't get carried so far away
you make a glaring, eye-blinding
hodgepodge of It.
For counters and Kinks there are
the new plastic surfacings which
are heat - and stain - resistant.
They're available In a wide choice
of colors to contrast or approxi
mately match your appliances or
dominant color.
Walls may. be painted or wall
papered. -
