Chu Shan Islands to Soviet Russia
as a naval base.
There is no way of confirming
the report. The agency attributed
it to informed sources.
The Chu Shans are 90 miles
south of Shanghai and 310 miles
north of Formosa.

Sea, particularly for submarines
and a base for possible operations
against tne American and Chinese
Nationalist navies.

Fever Probed
LANCASTER. Pa. I.fl-Slale and
local health authorities continued
their research today Into 37 cases
of paratyphoid fever in an effort
to pin down the source of the out
break. The cases have been reported
throughout the greater Lancaster
area. Most of the victims were
children. Three were reported in
critical condition today.
Dr. Oscar Davis, county medical
examiner, said the only common
factor thus far In all cases is that
the victims' milk originated at the
same dairy. The owner has agreed
to suspend bottling while the probe
is made.
Dr. Davis said at least two dava
investigation will be necessary be
fore the source can be determined
for certain. Samples of Ice cream,
milk and similar food products are
undergoing analysis.

SHOTGUN BLAST
MARYSVILLE. Calif. I Four-year-old
Wesley Cisco pulled a 12
gauge shotgun from a closet while
his mother Mrs. Cleo Cisco slept
on a couch, officers said. As he
dragged the gun toward her, it
fired. The charge hit Mrs. Cisco
from two-foot range, wllford Cisco,
the father, ran In from the back
yard and rushed his wife to a
hospital. She died there.
