Hartley act to bust unions.

Blood Case
Described
Sometimes you wonder If the
pint of blood you gave actually
did save a lite. Here's a case,
one of many In our own commu
nity: Little Brenda Hull, 6-monlh-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hall
of 303 Iowa Street, Is growing and
flourishing like any other normal
baby because blood was available
at our hospitals when vitally
needed.
iDurlng her pregnancy, Brenda's
mother was found to have Rh neg
ative blood, but during a previous
pregnancy she was sensitized to
Rh positive blood so that her blood
serum developed antibodies which
could destroy the Rh positive blood
cells. Inadvertently, this was set
ting up circumstances which could
make a difficult situation on any
future pregnancy.
Fortunately. Brenda's birth was
norms I but, being forewarned, the
doctors immediately ran tests and
within an hour It waa determined
that Brenda's red cells were being
, rapidly destroyed by the antibod
ies now In her system. To save her
life or to prevent the possibility
of permanent brain damage due
to lack of oxygen that the red
cells carry, It was decided to ex
change all of her blood.

Cross, were ready so Brenda's own
was removed from one vein while
simultaneous replacement of nor
mal blood was made In another.
Within a few days she was pro
ceeding on a normal path to health,
and now weighs almost SO pounds.

derstands, but someday she will

East Germans Say Conant
'Boasted' On U.S. Stand
BERLIN (UP) The East Oer
man Communists said today Amer
ican Ambassador James B. Con
ant was "boasting" when he said
the United Slates would hold to the
four-power status of Berlin.
The savage new attack on West
Berlin and the United States was
published in the official Commu
nist newspaper Neucs Deutschland
which was hinted repeatedly at a
new blockade of Berlin.
Neues Deutschlend said Dr. Con
ant should know that the four
power statute on Berlin "has not
existed for a long tlme" because
the "West itself trampled It in the
mud."
The official Communist organ
Ihus appeared to proclaim invalid
the four power laws under which
the United States, Britain and
France occupy Berlin with Russia,
supply It and have the right to
free movement to Berlin through
the Soviet zone.
It was another East German ef
fort to bolster the "sovereignty"
of the East German government
which the Western powers and
the Bonn government recognize
only as a puppet state under the
Soviets.
Only Monday Soviet MaJ. Gen.
P. A. Dibrova, the Russian Berlin
commandant, stressed again the
sovereignty of East Germany and
the Soviet sector of Berlin. He did
this by rejecting a British protest
against a border shooting and re
ferred it to "the proper authorities
of the German Democratic Re
public." .
Today's blast against Cbnant and
the West Berlin officials followed
a scries of boasts by the East

Gore Tells Russ Visit Frustration

McCarthy (R-Wis), says his unsuc
cessful attempts to visit Russia
during a European trip were
frustrating "but they had their
lighter moments."
"Many of the Russians I met
felt sorry for me." he said In a
telephone Interview yesterday from
his home in Sauk City. Wis.
"They thought that Joe McCar
thy had me exiled from the United
States, and I couldn't go back." .

Plea To Guilty
George Dumont, 55-year-old saw
filer, changed his plea from not
guilty to guilty late Monday af
ternoon when he was arraigned
before Circuit Judge David R.
Vandenberg for the slaying of Ja
son Charles, 45-year-old ranch
worker.
The confessed killer changed his
plea when District Attorney Rich
ard Bcesley agreed to reduce the
charge from second degree mur
der to manslaughter.

gation Indicated that there was
not sufficient evidence to convict
Dumont of second degree murder.
After the defendant had entered
a plea of guilty to manslaughter.
Judge Vandenberg ordered a pre
sentence investigation. This action
was taken at the request of De
fense Attorney George Reinmlllcr
of Portland. Dumont had no known
previous criminal record.
Jason was shot in a cabin at
Lone Pine on October 12. He died
a few hours later in Klamath Val
ley Hosltal.
Dumont told sheriff's deputies
Jason threatened him with a 30-30
rifle. He said he took the gun
away from Jason and shot him.
Both men had been drinking and
a few minutes before the shooting
had a bitter argument over a pro
posed deer hunting expedition.

Gore, a Republican who says
he's now thinking about running
for Congress himself but won't de
