Gets Promotion
DUNSMUIR Darrell Keesling,
s forest service employe, has re:

ment at the Shasta-Trinity seedling
nursery east of McCloud. Keesling
was stationed at Dunsmuir doing
fire control work last summer.
A temporary detail of parachute
packing has been assigned to
George Solus. He will be stationed
in Redding for the winter months,
returning to fire controf work at
the Dunsmuir guard station next
summer.

preparation work, according to
Clem Crouch, district ranger. Tim

The incident was touched off by
a comment made Nov. 22 by Peter
Matthews, one of the spokesmen
in the Foreign Office news depart
ment. Matthews offered a point-by-point
rebuttal to reporters of a speech
made to the Indian Parliament in
New Delhi by Bulganin.
In his speech the Soviet leader
claimed Russian foreign policy
was based on noninterference in
the internal affairs of other na
tions and added German unity
would best be achieved by the Ger
man people themselves.
Matthews ended his comment
with the words: ,
"The views of Mr. Bulganin
seem' thoroughly hypocritical."
All of Matthews' comments ex
cept the accusation of hypocrisy
had been authorized by the For
eign Office at a high level, an in
formed source said. They were vol
unteered at a daily news confer
ence. The "hypocritical" charge ap
parently 'embarrassed the Eden
government which has Invited Bul
ganin and Soviet Communist boss
Nikita Khrushchev to come to
Britain next spring. The Russians
have accepted.

charge of assault after his 18-year-old
wife testified he came home
drunk, ripped out the telephone,
punched their 3-month-old baby
and threatened to kill everyone in
the house. She said the threats end
ed when Warrington's mother-in-law
floored him with a blow to the
head.

pared with 1954, . according to
figures released from the office of
Elgin Gornett, Lake County agent.
The total estimate for 1955 is
$4,350,380 and it was $5,141,080 for
1954. For livestock sales, which
were $3,649,000 for 1955 and $4,
164,500 for last year, the drop was
attributed to lower market prices.
In 1955 the total farm crops sales
were $701,380 or $275,200 less than
the 1954 total of $976,580. The
heaviest loss was in grain caused
by weather conditions and a drop
in the price of oats and bjirley.
