Tolls will be collected on both bridges until the cost of con structing the new bridge and re modeling the existing bridge Is paid for. The total project will cost 14 mil lion dollars. Baldock said the new bridge will be advertised for bids on Jan. 13. with the bids to be opened Mitrch 1. Bids will be asked March 6 for sale of necessary bonds. The Oregon State Highway Com mission will design and supervise construction of the new bridge and remodeling of the existing one. The Washington Toll Bridge Au thority will sell the bonds, collect the tolls, and operate tho bridges until the bonds are retired. When the bonds are paid off, the tolls will be removed and both structures will be operated Jointly by the two state highway depart ments. The new bridge Is scheduled for opening by June 30, 1958. Recon struction of the existing bridge should be completed by Dec. 31, 1959. Baldock said the bridges should be paid for by seven years after tolls are Imposed.
