manufacturer Gerhard Mennen

trait now affixed to the talcum
can to become one of the most
familiar advertising trademarks to
millions up to the present time.
In 1902, when Gerhard Mermen
died, his son William became
president of the growing factory.
Continuing to pioneer in new pro
ducts and packaging as did his
lather, William Mennon introduced
a new type of shaving cream In
novation which revolutionized all
packaging up to that tune. Until
that time only shaving soap and
shaving sticks were in use. Wil
liam Mennen was the first to put
shaving . cream into tubes, which
like the talcum can siltr.r top, al
so became the standard for the
lines of shaving cream and all
other beauty products put Into
tubes today.
' The firs: Mennen baby product
' was evolved from the Borated Tal
cum Powder. It was originally ad
vertised . . . "Gerhard Mennen
produced the first borated talcum
to shower on babies to protect
their delicate skin from chafing
' and from the friction of tight gar
ments. His first perfect formula
Has never been bettered."
As a forerunner to the company's
present famous Baby-In-A-B o s c
. trademark on all. Mennen baby
products, a bib-and bonneted bab;
appeared on the first cans of
Borated Talcum Power SO years
ago signalling safety for baby's
tender skin.
As the vogue for Mennen powder
grew, th; company brought out
varieties; one developed especially
lor brunettes was called "Maran
gla." featuring the "scent of fresh-
cut orange blossoms." Blondes
were offered a powder "In a deli
cate shade of pink."
During the Twenties and Thirties
a succession of oaby products,
men's sbavmg creams, and after
shave let ions spread the Mennen
name further Into millions of home
