Woman Killed

CHICAGO W Police today back
tracked through the . private life
of a divorced mother of six in
an attempt to find a clue to the
sti angler who left her trussed body
in a muddy South Side alley.
They want to find out what hap
pened to Mrs. Edith Jamieson be
tween the time she left her Job
at a loop bank at 4:20 a.m. and
7:20 a. m. yesterday when her
body was discovered in the alley.
Police said examination dis
closed she was neither raped nor
robbed In the apparently motive
less slRying.
Police questioned" four men who
were acquainted with Mrs. Jamie-
son, a divorcee and a grandmoth
er, but obtained no tangible clues.
Police are searching for a cab
driver, who, they said, was be
lieved to have regularly met Mrs.
Jamieson at a streetcar intersec
tion in the early mornings after
she left work and driven her home
free.
Police are convinced she was
strangled one place and her body
was brought to the alley, about
block from her South Side home
at S016 S. Rockwell St. They said
that although the alley was mud
dy, Mrs. Jamleson's clothing was
relatively clean and there were Ho
signs of a struggle in the alley.
Mrs. Jamieson's former husband.
David, 48, Is a paraplegic con
fined to a wheelchnlr. Police said
Jamieson, who suffered a mild
heart attack a month ago, was
in a hospital Tuesday night.

starts.

bling as a construction outfit, work
ing against time to erect the 24
man quonsets before snow falls.
The Army says more than 75
per cent of the men already are
out of tents.
"My men are excited at the pros
pect of solid buildinas with real
rots and mattresses," said Cant.

nell is happily "married" again to
George Gobel on bis television show
thanks to the fans who helped
her get her Job back.
When the Gobel show opened for
the fall season, many viewers were
disappointed to see that Gobel's
wife, Alice, played c-y Jen. naa
vanished. In her place was' a moth
er who twitted and herded the little
comedian past the TV cameras.
The response was violent and Im
mediate. In Hollywood a club was formed

anxious Alice-lovers poured Into
NBC. Two weeks later Jeff re
turned to the show.
"I'm very happy to be back
Jeff said today. "At first I felt bid
ly about not being on the ahow-
I felt so married to George 1 Every
place I went people asked me,
when are you going back on tht
show?"
Jeff had no Idea she was written
out of the program until late Au
gust. Producer-writer Hal Kanter
decided George's stint would turn
into another husband-wife comedy
unless he changed the format.
"Besides, having a different ac
tress play Alice each program
would give them more opportuni
ties for guest stars," Jeff said. "I
understood that. So when my agent
phoned to tell me to look for an
other Job, I wasn't hurt or angry."
Before she was "fired," Jeff also
separated from husband Aldo Ray,
but she Insists their troubles have
nothing to do with the Gobel show,
"But about that time I was blue
and didn't feel good about any
thing." she said. "Then I got a
phone call to come back to work.
When I drove into the parking lot
at NBC. the boy said. "Welcome
back. Alice.' That made me fee)
good."
