Icy Roads .
Cause Wreck
Icy road conditions were blamed
Sunday for an accident which sent
three persons to tile hospital about
3 p.m. .
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Turner and
his mother, who live between Bo
nanza and Dairy, had driven to
the Clay Walker place In Laimell
Valley to buy turkeys. When their
car stalled, Mrs, Walker offered
to drive them home. On Highway
60, near the Frank Tofell place,
the car hit an Icy spot and went
out of control, striking a power
pole and knocking down about 100
feet of lence. 'me car was practic
ally demolished.
Dick Pcpple of Klamath Falls
came along and took the Turners
to Klamath Valley Hospital where
they were treated for cuts re
ceived when the windshield shat
tered and for bruises. They were
released from the hospital. Mrs.
Walker Is to have X-rays today.

' Mrs. Frank Rust Gilchrist, moth
cr of Frank W. Gilchrist of the
Gilchrist lumber operation in
Northern Klamath County, died
November 17 In Laurel Mississippi.
She bad been in 111 health for sev
eral months. Word of her death
reached local friends Novemuer 19.
. Mrs. Gilchrist had visited on
many occasions with relatives in
the Oregon town that bears the
family name. Her last visit was
Jast Christmas.
In addition to her son who 'vas
with her in Laurel at the time of
her death, she is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. P. K. Fletcher,
Alpen, Michigan and Mrs. John

Frank R. Gilchrist of Gilchrist is
a grandson.

dale, Mo., died in the other auto.

Wfld Gun Battle In Tavern Ends With On e Man Killed

station operator, deputized mo
ments before by a state policeman,
shot and killed a holdup man in
a kuii battle at a tavern here
Sunday evening.
The police officer, John Mekker,
suffered non-critical wounds in the
shouloer and arm in the shooting
affray.
Police said that Herschel Oreen
wade, 24, fatally wounded Wallace
Cunningham, 35. of Portland, in the
chest alter Cunningham had shot
Mekker.

Mrs. Charlene James, the bar
maid, said that the two men had
entered the tavern at about 5:30
p.m., and ordered beer. Suddenly
they produced revolvers and
herded all the customers into a
restroom at the rear of the tavprn
after forcing Mrs. James to turn
over the money.
The eight customers who had
been locked Into the restroom
boosted H. G. Cope of Salem over
a partition. He. went to the adjoin
ing apartment of the tavern owner,
Ellsworth Wilson, and Mrs. Wilson
called the state police at Salem.

Death Learned
- Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, November 22, at 2 p.m.
Jn the Methodist Church at Fort
Jones for Arthur Erickson, life
long resident of Siskiyou County
who died November 20 at Hillside
Hospital. He was 68 years old.
Death followed a ooronary
thrombosis suffered on Saturday,
November 10. He had suffered
Irom a heart condition for several
years.
Mr. Erickson had been a resi
dent of Tennant, California and
an employs of the logging divi
sion of the Long Bell Lumber
Company near Tennant for 30
years.
He Is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Eva Erickson and one sun,
George Erickson, both of Tennant.
A brother Charles Erickson, Etna,
California, also survives.
The body was taken to O'Hnlr'o
Memorial Chapel and later to Fort
Jones.
