Democracy
Contest To
Be Judged
The winner of the Voice of De
mocracy Contest will be picked
Tuesday night following a broad
cast from KFJI at 8:30 o clock.
Nine contestants representing the
hlfrh schools of the county will com
pete. The contest, sponsored locally by
the Klamath County Junior Cham
ber ol Commerce, Is part of a na
tionwide script writing and voic
ing competition which gives high
school students a chance to speak
lor democracy. j
A tape recording of the county
winners speech will be sent to
(lie state competition. The slate
winners will compete regionally
and the final four national co
equal winners will be picked by a
panel of nationally-known citizens.
The four top winners will re-
cpive an expense-free trip to Wash
ington, D.C., a S500 college schol
arship check and will meet the
President and other top govern
ment officials.
Contest Chairman Jack Otter-
heln announced Saturday that
Charles Patterson, Gilchrist High
School junior; Jack Berry, Malln
Hlch senior, and John Vandenberg.
Sacred Heart Academy senior will
be among the nine county contes
tants. The other six contestants
will be announced Monday.
The local speeches will be
judged by Joseph Mercer of the
Modoc Toastmasters Club, Mrs.
Paul Landry and Mrs. Addie Mae
Nixon, city librarian.

By Snow On Road
Several automobiles were
trapped for a short period Satur
day morning between two wind
falls on the West Side Road, but
state highway crews cut a one
way passage through the anow,
Oregon Stale Police reported to
day. The Klamath Falls office ot the
state police received the call at
8: IS a.m., but their records did
not show how many autos were
trapped, or the exact location on
the road, which runs from Rock
Point to Fort Klamath.

Scouts Plan
Workshops
WEED Workshops are planned
for all Weed Girl Scouts and
Brownies to be held each Wednes
day and Friday evenings at the
Weed Court Club for the purpose
of making Christmas wreaths and
decorations which will be -placed
on sale prior to the holiday sea
son, with the proceeds to be divid
ed among the individual troops.
The meetings wili be held icr one
hour beginning at 7 p.m.
Orders for the greenery decora
tions and pine cone arrangements
may be made with th leaders of
the various troops or with Mrs.
Dysart Scribner, town chairman.
Plans for the workshops and the
sale project were completed at
the meeting held Wednesday night,
November 9. in the Weed Court
Club with 25 Brownies and 24
Girl Scouts attending in addition
to various leaders and parents.

Man's Body
Discovered
In Car Trunk
YAKIMA' An unidentified
man's ibody, clad only In a pair

licensed car here Saturday.
A small wound in the center of

parent mark on the body, state
Patrol and sheriff's officers re
ported. The body was doubled up

days near the fairgrounds at the
edge of the city.
Officers said the 1952 car was
registered to Hollis Boone of Shatt
er, Calif.
Dr. Ralph Shirey, Yakima Coun
ty coroner, said after an autnnsv
ui-aui was caused oy a stab wound
which penetrated the heart and cut
iwo ribs. A big knife was ap
parently used and the victim prob
ably lived for half an hour, be
added.
He estimated the man's age as
35 and said he had been dead
about 72 hours when found. He was
about 6 feet tall, weighed about
160 pounds and had brown hair.

In Auto Crash

Junction City, was killed Friday
night In a headon collision on High
way 99 about one mile south of
Junction City.
State police said his car passed
another vehicle, then smashed Into
