'Voice Of Democracy' Title To De Sought By Students

the Voice of pemocracy contest,
now under way In the schools or
Klamath County, announced Jack
Qtterbeln, contest chairman for
the Klamatb County Chamber ol
Commerce which la aponsoring the
contest.
"All the schools of Klamath
County are cooperating in the con
test," aald Otterbein, "but the Jay
cees would like to encourage all
high school students to participate
in the contest."
. Voice of democracy Is script
writing and voicing competition
which gives high school students
an opportunity to speak lor dem
ocracy. The Klamath County win
ner will be Dlcked from among the
nine high schools ol the county aft
er the November IS broadcast over
a local radio station time to be
announced later.
The winner in the county will
compete with the winners from the
other counties ol the stale for the
state title. The county winners will
have their presentations tape re
corded for Judging at the slate
contest. The state winner will re-
celve a television set as the prize.
Contestants prepare, preferably
classroom assignments, 1 live
minute scripts on the subject. "I
Speak for Democracy.'1
The coded transcriptions ol state
and territorial winners are then
sent to National VOD Committee
Headquarters, where a screening
committee composed ol educators
and representatives of the three
sponsoring organisations will se
lect 12 aeml-finallsts. Out ol these

The contest is sponsored by the
National Association of Radio and
Television Broadcasters, Radlo-
Electronics-Televlslon Manutactur-
era Association and the U.S. Junior
Chamber ol Commerce. U is en
dorsed by the U.S. Olllce ol Edu
cation and approved by the Na
tional Association of Secondary
School Principals.

another contestant, was not available for the photo. The con
test which is county-wide in scope closes November 15 with
one high school winner selected from Klamath County to
compete with other schools in the state. Regional winner
receives a four-day expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Other prizes offered include a $500 college scholarship, 'a
console television receiver, and a visit w'h the president of
the United States, members of Congress a-J other high-ranking
persons in Washington. Sponsors for the "Voice of Democracy"
contest are the National Association of Radio and Television
Broadcasters, the Radio-Electronics-Television Manufacturers
Association, and the United States Junior Chamber of Com
