Recruiting Officers' Wives Learn To Be Packing Experts

Her life as the wile of Master
Sergeant Charles Andrew West,
U.S. Marine Corps, has. since their
marriage in 1943, been a full one
for Vivienne ('Viv" to her friends)
West.
She met and married Sgt. West
when he was stationed in her na
tive New Zealand, and came as a
bride to the United States to be
gin her career as the wife of a
marine recruiting officer.
Born Into an old established fam
ily in Wellington, New Zealand.
Vivienne Collie quickly . adapted
herself to a strange new country
and an equally new way of liv
ing. From the conservative routine
of a "settled" existence i her fam
ily has owned the Edward Collie,

Mrs. v Addie Nixon, city librarian.
Mrs. Nixon gave a book review
as part of the program.
Members present were Mrs. Tim
Murphy. Mrs. Eldon Storey, Mrs.
Dale Goode, Mrs. Leland Sams,
Mrs. Kenneth Dykeman. Mrs. Don
ald Crosby, Mrs. Dale Tepper,
Mrs. Einar Rusth. Mrs. Rod Mo
Phail, Mrs. Frank Parson, Mrs.
Nell Mayfield and Mrs. Isabelle
Brlxner.
Co-hostesses Mrs. Tepper and
Mrs. Sams served refreshments to
the group after the meeting.

royal matron Catherine Wright
presiding. Hugh Templeton was
royal- patron pro tern in the ab
sence of Ted Huey. Twenty of the
22 officers were present.
The court was visited by grand
royal matron, Elizabeth Madsen;
grand royal patron, Raymond How
ell; grand prelate, Hugh Temple
1on and a number of out of town
members.
Five new members were Initiat
ed during the meeting, which was
preceded by a potluck supper at
6:30 p.m. and followed by refresh
ments served by committee mem
bers Ruth Stanley, May Wells and
-Ethel Henry.
At the meeting October 19. royal
matron and royal patron Cather
ine Wright and Ted Huey presided.
Twenty-one other officers ' were
present.
