Cadillac dealers in Klamatb Falls,
attended the showing o( the 1956
Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs earlier
this month, riie Oldsmobiles were
displayed in San Francisco and
the Cadillacs In Portland.
Cadillac dealers will display
their new line locally and nation
ally on October 24. Oldsmobile will
be shown over the nation on No
vember 3, the Miller firm an
nounced. Oldsmobile and Cadillac are in
troducing their new Hydramatic
drives this year. The transmission
is improved out retains all the
advantages of the highly success
ful Hydramatic used by Oldsmo
bile and Cadillac for so many
years. It Is the oldest of the au
tomatic drives. The gear train has
been strengthened to handle the
increased torque of the 1956 en
gine. New colors and interiors high
light both the Oldsmobile and the
Cadillac. Cadillac will introduce
three new body styles: the series
62 sedan Seville, the Eldorado
Seville coupe and the Eldorado
Brougham.
Dick Miller Jr. reported that both
Oldsmobile and Cadillac have nro.
jected increased production sched
ules lor 1956. Both companies plan
their biggest production year in
history. Miller said.

Heart Attack
Takes Minister
Arthur Charles Bates, minister to
the First Christian Church in
Klamath Falls from January 1933
to 1944. died Wednesday, October
13, in Salem where he has made
his heme since retirement in 1954.
He suffered a heart attack while
teaching a Bible School class in
the First Christian Church, Salem
en October i. A second attack
three days later took his life.
Mr. Bates was born in Eugene.
Oregon, in 1880. His mother was
an early day settler In Eugene.
He taught school in Paisley for
three years and later in Alvadore,
Oregon. '
He mauled Flora Byers in 19051
and at that time began his mln-j
istry in the church. Mrs. Bales,
died in 1923.
Ke graduated from the Eugene
Bible University in 1927 and while
in Bible College, preached at Trent.
Oregon. From there he went to
Franklin and later to Mill City,
Oregon. He ministered in the Klam
ath Falls church until 1944 when
he was called to be Centennial
Evangelist for the state of Oregon.
He worked for the Oregon Chris
tian Missionary Convention as
evangelist for three years and then
accepted the call to the church at
Silverton whore he served until his
retirement. He continued to be in
demand as supply pastor and Bi
ble School teacher until his death.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Dean Stephens. Klamath Falls,
and a sen, Arthur Harold Bates in
Tokyo, Japan.
Services will be held in saiem
with funeral rites and Interment
in Bell Crest Cemetery.

12-week-old strike at the Perfect
Circle Corp. plants In eastern In
diana. Maintaining nearly 1,000 National
Guardsmen on duty, as the result
of a riot last week at the firm's
foundry here, is costing the state
between S10.000 and $11,000 a day.
The figure came from Horace
Coats, executive secretary to Gov
George N. Craig.
The State budget Committee
Yesterday authorized use of the
state's general contingent fund of
$75,000 for Guard expenses. One
week of Guard duty had exhausted
the stale civil and military contin
gent lund, which is set up on a
basis of (75.000 a year. ,
The UAW wasn't saying how
much strike benefits It was paying
or how many strikers were draw
ing Uiein. but it has a 25-million-dollar
special strike fund. Perfect
Circle's, normal production force
here and at Hagerstown and Rich
mond totals 1,300, but some are
not UAW members.
