Food Hoarding Plan Advanced

HoeRh today recommended that
the United Slates government buy
livestock and stockpile iood for an
emergency as a means ol bolster
ing (ailing (arm prices.
These were two of the four rec
ommendations Hocgh made In an
address prepared for the opening
of the Midwest, Republican Farm
Price Conference, which he called.
He said he believed his recom
mendations w o u 1 d immediately
"relieve the Iarm price squeeze"
an would "Rlve us a permanent,
prosperous (arm and national
economy."
Attending the conference wore
coventors of Nebraska, South Da
kota, Indiana and Kansas and rep
resentatives o( the chiet executives
of Wisconsin, Wyoming and Illinois.
All were expected to present pro
posals for shoring up the nation's
larm economy,
Secretary of Agriculture Benson

Hoeah's recommendations were:
1. "That the U. S. Department
of Agriculture immediately go into
the market and purchase for use
quality livestock to bolster prices."
2. "That as a nation we estab
lish and maintain . . . critical
stockpiles of food as a part of our
national defense, and that we place
them in those parts of the country
and of the world where thew will
serve that end to best advantage."
3. "I recommend for your con
sideration the possibility of creat
ing .... , committees In your respec
tive stales" to promote increased
consumpllon o( meat, milk, eggs,
butter, cheese "and other protec
tive foods."
4. With an expected Increase In
national population in store, that
a system of "reserve acres" be
established to take some land out
of production now and "Insure for
posterity bread and peace."
