semi-official Radio National, gave
Kubitschek an ever - inciuasmq
lead over his closest competitor,
Adhemar de Barros, millionaire
industrialist candidate' of the So
cial Progressive Party.
Victory for Kubitschek was pre
dicted when counting of the estim
ated 10.000,000 ballots cast Monday

majority of his strongholds' still

Rovernor of Minas Gerals lagged
behind in the early returns but
surged ahead with the increasing
returns from his home state. i
Kubitschek ran with the support

The early October wet spell eon

eastern half of the country today
but clearing appeared In sight for
most areas.
The rain belt extended over the
Missouri, Mississippi and Ohio
valleys, the Great Lakes region
and most of New England.
Heaviest falls during the night
were along the lower Mieissippi
River, with more than an inch
recorded at several cities, and in
Indiana, with 3.36 inches at Fort
Wayne and 1.18 at Indianapolis.
Amounts in 24 hours measured
3.50 inches at Syracuse, N.Y., and
2 51 inches at Buffalo.
