Victory
Brooklyn
By ORLO ROBERTSON
NEW YORK Of) The situation
In Brooklyn once again Is normal
but it'll be many a day before
the last word is uttered about the
Brooklyn Dodgers winning their
first world baseball championship.
The shouting and tumult that
followed the Dodgers' final-game
triumph over the proud New York
Yankees had died today but It
didn't take much prompting to
send a Flatbush Ian off on the
clutch pitching of Johnny Podres,
the great catch of Sandy Amoros
in the seventh game, the slugging
of Duke Snider or the spirited play
el Pee Wee Reese and Jackie
Robinson.
Meantime, the Brooklyn players
scattered to all sections of the
country to await their World Series
checks. The Yankees packed their
bags for an exhibition tour of the
Far East starting Saturday.
FINAL FKiURKK
The final figures on the payoff
fo the Dlavers were expected to-;
day. But it was estimated each
of the 32 full Dodger shares would
be worth about $9,684 and each of
the 36 losing Yankee shares $5,739.
The money comes out of the
players' pool from the first four
cames, amounting to S6M.853.59.
Thirty per cent of the pool goes
to players on the teams finishing
second, third and lourtn in eacn
league. The Dodgers get 60 per
cent of the remaining 70 per cent
and the Yankees 40
The seven-day series attracted
362,310 fans and record net re
ceipts of 12,337.515.34. The players
receive an estimated $83,000 as
their share of the $100,000 receipts
from the pregame television show
T.hlle $1,125,000 from the actual
broadcasting and televising of the
games goes into the majors' cen
tral fund to help support the
players' pension fund.

And the way Lane expounded
his theories on club operation be

his meeting with Busch was mere

"I would proceed in orderly

"I don't contemplate any whole

The question of whether Lane

It was hours after the game and
Casey, in a relaxed mood, chat

I had him take it," Stengel
replied.
The Yanks had men on first and
thud with one out and with the
3-0 count on Yogi Berra, had a
bit? threat going.
Casey went on: "We need the
long ball, but if my man walks
we have the bases loaded and a
single ties the score. If that guy
eets the ball over (os he did for
3-0) Campnella (Brooklyn catch
er) don't dare to call for a pitch
out and I can have my men run
nine." Berra, Yankee catcher and their
leading hitter of the series, swun?
at the next pitch and flied to Carl
Furillo In short riant field. A rifle
throw to home kept Phil Rizzuto on
third base.
Hank Bauer then fanned to end
the last Yanks' threat of the game.
How about the 6th when the
Yankees had men on first and
second with none out and Berra
again at bat?
"Some folks think I should have
had Berra sacrifice, but we didn't
go for a tie. We wanted to win.
Then he hits to the opposite field
and from the dugout I never
thought that guy would catch the
ball."
He referred to Sandy Amaros'
sensational glove-handed catch of
Berra's fly near the left field foul
line that led to an equally sur
prisingly doubleplay when Gil Mc
Dougald couldn't get back to first
in time.
"Suppose I had Berra bunt and
it's a double play or they get the
guy at third." Case said. "What
would they call me then, hey?"
Stengel winked his eye. as if to
indicate he knew all right.
