- ... ..yVT; r Variety Grater,, Diamond Lake Jaunt Offers Wide Scenic THE OLD Ai)AGE concerning fh greener grass on th other side of the fence ! someone's pipedream. Residents of Klamath Falls have some of the most varied end bedutiful scenery in the nation right in their beck yard. Sparkling blue lakes, towering mountains, Impressive can yons, lofty trees, end hurrying rivers they are ell within 100 miles of the city. Undoubtedly the most scenic trip of all is the "loop" journey up Highwey 97 to Diamond Lake and then down on Route 209 to Crater Lake and home. The roads are excellent, end the scenery like wise. On the wey north you first encounter the winding Williamson River, bottom left. The fast traveler is liable to miss Collier State Park along the highway, but the old logging equip ment seen in the museum, bottom center, should not be overlooked. The Diemond Lake cutoff, Highwey 230, takes you past huge pines on the way to the lake, top right, where swimming and boating ere popular diversions. It's only e short drive from there to Crater Lake, which needs little description. Wildlife is In abundance, as witness the camp robber, tenter left, overlooking the lake. The drive beck on Highway 232 winds down the brink of Annie Creek canyon, with its unusual rock formations, such as the collonade at Godfrey Glen, center right. A final place of interest is Modoc Point on Upper Klamath Lake, once scene of the big Lamm Lumber Company mill. The old burner building still stands, but the mill has long since , gone out of operation. The entire trip covered only 164 miles. Get out the old sedan and see for yourself. t Photos by Joe Rigert it , i ft r , . y k -- j .... ..,. 4. W Is 11 -.' ' t .HsJrV..- ife: ; w- A. .
