succeeding Major General Waiter
E. Todd, who will become vice
commander of Fifth Air Force in
Japan, the position formerly held
by General Lynn.
Bringing with him more than 25
vears experience. General Lynn
comes to the West Coast from the
Far East where he assisted the
commander in directing the vast
complex for the aerial defense of
Japan, Okinawa and South Korea.
The two-star air leader, who
commanded the Japan Air Defense
Force until it was absorbed by
the Fifth Air Force, is credited
with building the tight defense net
protecting Japan.
Here he is charged with respon
slbility of directing air defense of
the western recion of tne united
States, including California, Wash
ington, Oregon and Nevada, as
well as portions of neighboring
states, involving 570,000 square
mile.3 of territory and approxi
mately 20 million people.
General Lynn is a native of
Kansas and joined the service as
a flying cadet in 1828, after serv.
ing with the Kansas N a t i o n a
Guard.
He was stationed at Hamilton AFB
previously in 1934 and again in
1946, when he was deputy chief of
staff for the Fourth Air Force.
The new; Klamath Falls jet air
base will be a unit under the over
all command of General Lynn. The
Klamath base is directly under
the 28lh Air Division. Hamilton
AFB, one of the major divisions
of the WADF.
