being a foreign star who has be

At last the actor has been lured
to Hollywood for the film version
of the rerene Molnar play. "The
Swan." He not only gets the girl

She also rolled out a red wel
come carpet for Guinness with a
cocktail psrty, ana Miss Kelly
gave a soiree at ner come In his

But the solemn-faced actor waves
all this acclaim aside. ,
I'm Just an ordinary character
actor," Guinness said humbly.
I've been an actor for 22 years.
I do dramas, too, and stage work.
I don't net much fan mall-
I'm not (hat kind of an actor. Any
notice I've had In this 'country is
indeed a mystery to me, as it is
to people back home."
Guinness sat in his Beverly Hills
hotel suite, colorful sight in a
long, black, baggy sweater and
mutller and minus his usual tou'
pee. He often sniffled and blew his

that many film critics regard Eng
land's comedies as superior to

Guinness was asked before to

plained, "The scripts were usually
imitations of stuff I've done back
home."
"Or else I was committed for
English films," he said, "I'm sup
posed to oe doing a turn in Eng.
land right now. But three weeks
ago It suddenly fell through, and
I waa left high and dry. Within 24
hours this 'Swan' comedy turned
up with the role of an amusing
character."
In "The Swan" Guinness plays
a Hungarian prince who Is not too
interested in the sleek Miss Kelly
until Louis Jourdan nearly sweeps
ner away.
Already there's a plot afoot In
the Inner sanctum of MGM to Hol
lywood Ite that Molnar ending. If
sneak preview audiences don't dig
Ouinness' romantic appeal, a new
non-Molnar finish will be filmed
in which Jourdan wins the fair
lady.
Guinness arrived In Hollywood on
an over-the-north-pole airliner. This
trip featured a scene right out of
a Guinness movie.
"I had a berth, but It Jacknifed
abd collapsed," he said. "I didn't
want to wake my fellow passen- leei auu u up m mc air ana U)e
gers. So I spent the night with my I rest of me hanging down below."

tho opening- of the new West Side
airlines terminal but he was nearly
a week late and i mile away from
the terminal.
It originally was planned for him
to land a helicopter on the roof of
the terminal at Its opening last
week.
The stunt was vetoed by City
Marine and Aviation Commission
er Vincent A. O. O'Connor, who
said the terminal, on 42nd Street
near the Hudson River, Was too
close to the West Bide Highway

So Ihe helicopter flight was
transferred to the roof of Pier 67
farther down the river at 15th
Street, After Godfrey brought the
aircraft down yesterday he was
awarded a scroll from eight air
lines praising him for "his con
