Weekend Angling Outlook

ram has brightened fishing pros
pects In Oregon streams, the State
Game Commission said iu its'
weekly bulletin. However even
without it some waters gave prom
ise of good catches.
The report by districts:
NORTHWEST
-'North coast streams need 'the
rain lor improvement of salmon
and trout angling. Snlmon angling
out of Yaquma and Depoe Bays
has been fair to excellent. The
McKenzie and- Willamette rivers
have been good. Dexter and Look
out Point reservoirs have been
fair on troll, Dorena has been fair
and Clear Lake, has been good.
Other McKenzie' Pass area lakes
have been fair.
SOUTHWEST
Winchester Bay salmon angling
has continued fair. Sea-run cut
throat angling has been fair in the
lower Rogue and spotty in Smith
River. Fly fishing in the Aness
ana Illahee areas has not been
successful. There has been a great
need for rain. Along the main
Umpqua and well up the North
Umpqua some sea-run cutthroat
are being taken. Steeliiead angling
has been fair to good at Steam
boat Creek and Soda Sprirms Dam
is cloced to all angling. T.ie river
above Soda Springs is open until
Oct. 9. The South Umpqua above
Jackson Creek is closed. Salmon
angling at Coos Bay has been -fair
to good inside lue bar and good to
excellent outside. Striped bass
angling has been fnir to good up
the Coos River and fair to good
on Haynes slough and between

lakes have been fair to good. High
mountain Jakes have nearly all

NORTHEAST
Wallowa County streams are
producing good catches of small
trout, with'lnmaha River best. The
Lower Grande Ronde has been
producing a few summer steel
head. Wallowa Lake has been poor
but the high Wallowa lakes have
been good for Eastern DrooK ana
rainbow. The Walla Walla River
has been Hi in? up good trout
catches. Unity Reservoir has been
fair for rainbows.
SOUTHEAST
Stream fishing has been gen
erally poor but Fish and Delint
ment lakes in Harney County have
been fair. Smallmouth bass fish
ing on the Snake has been good.
