OREGON PACE TOREK Klamath County Employment Hits High Point Since 7950 Employment In Klamath County reached a new high in August with ail industries at peak employment, according to Quy Barker, Klam ath Falls manager for the Oregon State Employment Service. Construction employment fihowf more than a 50 per cent increase over 1954, ha announced. Agricul tural employment also shows con siderable Increase. Retail trade and service reflect increased pay rolls by additional employment. Employment in lumber and log ging reached the highest point since 1950. A scarcity of trained workers has developed with many unfilled orders on file in the local employment office. Logging and lumbering employ ment got off to a good start early this spring and increased steadily until August when a small de crease occurred. August is still estimated to be more than 10 per cent over 1954. Retail trade and service em ployment has increased steadily as payrolls in other industries put DENNIS DUELL Dennis Duell Dies At 17 Dennis (Buzzie) Ducll, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Olson. 2110 Wiard, died at home at 3:40 p.m. Friday after an illness of four months. He was born at Bend, February 11, 1938, and moved to Klamath Falls with his parents when he was two years old. During his three years of high school at Klamath Union High School, he had been particularly active In dramatics and journalism. He had worked for the Herald and News on a part time basis and would have been a senior at KUHS this fall. In addition to parents, survivors Include two brothers, Stanley Rus sell (Rusty) Duell and Larry Duell who will be a sophomore at KUHS when school starts;- a sister, Mrs. Robert Scoggins, also- of Klamath Falls; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins including Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Corbin and children Janice and David LeCroix, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Stevens and Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Duell, all of Klamath Falls; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Stevens of Kin math Falls. "At the present time, the econo mic conditions are better than for several years," he commented, "and opportunities for work are available to most workers with experience. With college and high school students leaving jobs to re turn to school, many vacancies are left. The workers to fill these jobs are not available in the area at the present time." Supplementing Barker's report on the employment situation in Klamath County, several building contractors have reported a serious shortage of skilled carpenters at the present time. One contractor stated that a relatively small re modeling job in a Main Street business office has been held up for more than six weeks while he waits for -skilled workers to do the Job. Another contractor re ported that some carpenters are working the sixth day at overtime scale in order, to overcome the shortage of skilled men on some of his contracts. Fireworks Sale Charge Upheld Andrew Gigler. South Sixth Street grocer, was found guilty by a Jury in District Judge D. E. Van Vac tor's court late Friday of exposing fireworks for sale. Judge Van Vactor said he would pass sentence on Gigler at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Two groups of school children testified during the trial. One group told how they tried to buy fire crackers at Gigler's store and the grocer refused to make the sale. The others said they bought lire crackers in the grocery store. Gigler was arrested August 19 by State Policeman Larry Berg mann on complaint of Suburban Fire Chief Buster Gordon. TALKS COPENHAGEN.
