Hie U.S. Army said today that
Cpi. Murray Fields, of New York
City, one of three Americans to be
released soon by Russia, has been
absent without leave since 1948
from an armored regiment at
Nuernberg, Germany.
A spokesman said Fields, now
3fi, was attached to headquarters
service troops of the 2nd Con
stabulary Regiment at Nuernberg
at the time of his disappearance
In early June 1948.
The State Department announced
In Washington Saturday that the
Soviet Union has agreed to release
Fields nlong with Wilfred C.
Cumish, Amesbury. Mass., an
Army private missing from his
unit in Vienna since 19-13. and
Frederick Charles Hopkins, an
American not. otherwise identified.
The Army said Fields, also
known as Murrav Fcingersch, and
Cumish are carried on its records
as deserters and will be subject
to arrest and trial upon their re
turn to American custody.

ed arrival of a key government
official lor a first-hand report on
the Geneva atoms-for-peace con
ference. Lewis L. Strauss, chairman of
the Atomic Energy Commission,
was expected to arrive here either
late in the day or this evening.
He headed the American delega
tion at Geneva.
He may report to the President
tonitrht or aboard Eisenhower's
private plane tomorrow.
The President will interrupt his
work and play vacation then for
about 36 hours to fly back East.
Strauss will accompany him.
In Washington, Eisenhower will
get a briefing on the international
situation from Secretary of State
Dulles, stay overnight at the White
House, then go on to Philadelphia
Wednesday to address the Ameri
can Bar Assn. convention.
After the speech he will return
to Washington to pick up Mrs.
Eisenhower and then 'travel back
Wednesday evening.
The President got back to Den
ver early last night from a five
day rest at the Rocky Mountain
ranch of his old friend Aksel Niel
sen. He motored the 70 miles from
Frpser. Colo., on the western slope
of the Continental Divide, through
very, heavy Sunday traffic in 2
hours and 15 minutes.
He was accompanied by his 7-year-old
grandson David, who also
vacationed at the Fraser ranch. On
arrival here the youngster got a
hearty greeting from his great-
grandmother Mrs, John S. Doud,
?t whose home the President and
David are staying. She is Mrs.
Eisenhower's mother.
Eisenhower was ruddy with sun
burn and appeared to be well
rested.

walkout was settled early .yester
