McCloud Lumberjack Festival Replete
With Pretty Girls, CloWns, Parades
THE McCLOUD LUMBERJACK FIESTA last weekend attracted
tourists from throughout the West Coast, and it's easy to
understand why. In addition to numerous contests, the affair
included two parades, pretty girls, clowns, and an aquacade
last Sunday night. The two-day event was sponsored by the
McCloud Recreational Council. Herald and News Photog
rapher Don Kettler caught the flavor of the fiesta in this series
of pictures. The smiling royalty at left, top, is Pat Herron.
She rode in the parade Sunday, led by the American Legion
drill team of McCloud Post 92, top right. Little Laura Colomba
of San Francisco, center, was more absorbed with her cotton
candy than with the parade floats, such as the Pocahontas
Lodge float, left center. Riding in it were Helen Jordan and
Dorothy Klingingsmith. The girls on the left, center, seemed
deeply interested in what was going by even if Laura wasn't.
A parade wouldn't be a parade without a clown, and this
one was no exception. Charles Belmont, lower left, provided
the laughs on this occasion, and Ray Davis seems amused by
his antics. The two youngsters at the bottom, center, provided
their own conveyance for the parade. They are Donald Ric
conini and Rosana Malatesta. Fred Stratton and Ralph Jack
son, both of Weed, bottom right, engaged in some horseplay
for the benefit of the photographer. That isn't blood you see
on the blade of the knife wielded by Jackson.
