LANGELL VALLEY A family
get-to-gether was held at the home
of Waller Smith Sr., on Sundav.
After dinner, a social evening was
eiJoved by Mr. and Mrs. Lester
Moore, Kathy. Susan and Jimmy;
and Mrs. Klfie Oilman all of Mer
rill. Mr. end Mrs. Louis Parsons
and Deimna. MacDoel; Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Smith Jr.. Cheryl,
Brett. Craig and Lyle; and the
lost an'd hostess.

ASSIGNMENT "SEE AMERICA FIRST" was the summer
project for two sisters, Dorothea and Bette Brown, daughters
of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Brown. Henley.
t The girls, one a registered nurse (Dorothea) and Bette,
a school teacher, left their respective posts at St. Ber
nardine'i Catholic Hospital, and Sturges Junior High School,
San Bernardino, California, to continue their summer vacation
project of seeing all 48 states.
So far they have covered 41 and next summer plan to
revisit some and finish the last lao of the tour with Kentucky,
Tennessee, North Dakota, Delaware, West Virginia, Iowa and
Ohio.
The girls are now at the home of their parents , until vaca
tion time ends and it's time to return to classrooms and
hospital corridors.
In the pictures, they are pictured "back home" at Henley
Dorothea left, and Bette right. The picture in Utah is typi
eal of pictures taken in each state visited throughout the nation.
On the boat they are "Cruising Down the (Potomac) River."

Sisters Are On

Firm believers in "See America
First" are Bette and Dorothea
Brown, daughters of Mr. and Mrs.
Jess Brown, Henley. Both are fol
lowing their respective professions
in San Bernardino, California, dur
ing the fall and winter months
and the highways and bvways in
the summer. Bette is a home ec
teacher in Sturnes Junior HiRh
School and Dorothea is a. regis
tered nurse and until vacation
time was at St. Bernadine's Cath
olic Hospital.
Traveling by car, they left Loma
T.Inda, on June 17 to see more of
USA and In the 12,000 miles trav.
eled this summer, they also in
cluded part of Southern Canada. .
The sight seeing sisters headed
their car out of the West by way
of the Southern Route to Florida
and from . there up the East
Coast to Maine.
Slops on the East Coast Included
visit with a former college room
mate of Bette's.
Washington. DC. sightseeing
tours included the White House.
Arlington Cemetery, a boat ride
on the Potomac a tour of the
Pentagon, etc.
All of the top (and bottom) tour
ist spots in New York were In
cludedfrom the top of the Em
pire State Building to sub-street
parts of Bowery Chinatown.
After Maine, Vermont and New
Hampshire they started West
through Niagara Falls and the
Great Lakes states.
A special trip was made lo the
W. K. Kellogg cereal plant and
Battle Creek Sanitarium in Mich
tean. Their Itinerary was through
North Dakota and Wyoming lo Yel
lowstone, Idaho and Washington
beiore they saw the West Coast
again. They left the Coast Route
and drove inland via Grants Pass
for home.
The summer travelers have
more than skimmed the surface oi
Scenic America they have seen
every national park and recognized
canyon In the USA with Carlsbad
Cavern the only exception.

end meetings with college friends
in three different states and go
ing with them to church on each
Sunday. .
They drove into the family yard
on August 1, and will stick pretty
close to home until workaday rou
tine beckons' them south this fall.

Club of Langell Valley staged a
roller skating party on Tuesday
evening. The cluo leaders are Mrs.
