County Audit
Trouble Told
YRESA Auditors irom the
film 01 Karris and Porterfieid,
Woodland, have run imo diiticul-
tles in their current audit ol the
books in several county depart
ments, according to the report oi
LeBov Harris to the Siskiyou;
county Board of Supervisors.
Harris said it appears that ter
mer auditors nave never made
real audit of the records. He bald
thai in live departments, the books
cannot be properly audited be
cause not enough iniormation is on
hand for the job. He said he did
not think it was the fault of pres
ent department heads; that they
merely inherited the coniused
booxkesptngr systems of their pred
ecessors. He added that many!
counties have similar problems.
ris include the road department,
the Siskiyou County Cenerai Hos
pital, the surveyor's oiilce, proba
tion department the Vreka Justice
Court. Oiher departments are in
good shape, he said.
Concerning the justice court, be
said that judge E. M, Axteii has
done an excellent job in bringing
the books up to date in the short
time he has had the position, but
that there is still a long ways to
so.
Harris said it was impossible to
determine now much money the
surveyor's office had turned over
to the county. He pointed lut that
he was not implying dishonesty
merely that an antiquated book
keeping system is to blame.
He said it appeared that no real
audit has ever been conducted at
the hospital. Hospital Admtnistra.
tor Robert McKeen asked the
board that money be appropriated
to set up an adequate bookkeeping
system at the hospital.
Tne board instructed Purchasing
Agent Jess O'Hoke, McKeen, Harris
and Road Engineer Orel Lewis to
determine that cost of modernizing
the books in the hospital and road
departments.
Supervisors indicated that studies
would be made ol the other de
partments later as more funds be
come available.
