mond hospital today with a broken
back.
The young soldier from Ft. Lewis
drove through a guardrail down a
20-foot embankment into the Wil
lapa River bed while trying to get
back to his Army KP duties early
yesterday.
Fortunately, the tide in Willapa
harbor, into which the river Hows,
was out. Otherwise, authorities
said young Crosby would have
drowned.
His father left a Spokane goll
tournament to fly to Raymond.

north of here, and took the wrong
road to return to Ft. Lewis, where
he was due for KP duly at 5:30
a.m. yesterday. . He wound up in
Raymond, some 30 miles to the
couth.

Struck By Fire
IAS VEGAS. Nev. 11 Some 400
persons were forced to leave the
luxury Hotel El Rancho Vegas last
night and three persons were over
come by smoke when a fire broke
in the kitchen of the estab
lishment.
Tne lire -was contained in the
kitchen and roof but smoke spread
through the dining room, where
a show was starting. The orches
tra kept playing and the chorus
girls kept dancing for a while.
Tne diners filed out in orderly
fashion.
Firemen said the blaze started in
a kitchen broiler and ale thiough
the roof.

someone else sneaks I will not."
He sat down. Police rushed out
side to stop the noise.
