In Damage Suit
LOS ANGELES. MV-A ' $50,000
damage suit has been filed against
Jimmy Wakely, singing and guitar
playing cowboy, by the mother of
18-year-old Anita R. Hayes, charg
ing an attack "with force and
violence."
Mrs. Thelma R. Hayes said the
alleged attack occurred April 25
while Miss Hayes was "lawfully in
Wakely's Hollywood office," that
it was unprovoked, and that it
caused serious injury and mental
shock.
Wakely is away on tour.

honest with the public when be
sought to create the "false im
pression that he was battling for
me while Wetherby and Clements
were sticking the dagger in my
back."
During the convention. Chandler
was asked about reports he was
working for 1 Russell Instead of
Barkiey.
"I am instructed to vote for
Barkiey and I will vote for Bark
ley," chandler replied, "but if any
thing happens to Barkley's can
didacy, I will be for Russell and
will try to swing the Kentucky
delegation to hipi.
Chandler was unavailable for
comment last night.
In reviewing Chandler's record
as governor and U. S. Senator,
Barkiey caustically criticized nim
for leaving Congress in 1945 "when
Ihe lure of a $50,000 baseball sal
ary was dangled before his eyes."
Barkiey claimed the resignation
opened the way for a Republican
