Oregon Vets' Taxes Paid
Veterans with homes and farms
financed by the Oregon veterans'
home and farm loan program paid
state property taxes on 10,286
pieces of property in the amount

Department of Veterans' Affairs
reported this week.
In Klamath County, 176 veterans
wuh homes and larins financed by
the stale loan paid tl3.682.7i on
their real property.
The veteran doesn't pay these
taxes direct to the tax collector.
He pays one-twellth of them every
month to the Department oi vet
erans' Affairs along with his
monthly loan repayment. The de
partment in turn pays the tax col
lector, and does it in advance or
the November IS deadline in order
to give the veteran the advantage
of a 3 per cent discount. The tax
savings effeoted'for the 10.285 pro
perty holders this year amounted
to J33.793. The average tax paid
by. each veteran was S106.24.
The department collects the vet
eran's taxes for two reasons to
relieve him from the necessity of
paying, his own taxes In a lump
sum, and to prevent tax delin
quencies.
Largest tax payments went to
Multnomah C o u n t v, which re
ceived 274,898 from 2,455 veter
ana' properties. Lane County was
second, collecting SS4.746 from 752
veterans, and
third, with 723
