Plans for the forthcoming Settle
ment School tea October 30, were
formulated by the Pi Beta Phi
Alumnae Club at a recent meet
ing at the home of Mrs. Robert
Kent.
The tea, at the home of Mrs.
Frederick Ehlers, 1338 Pacific Ter
race, will feature a display of
items made by the mountain folk
near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. '
PI Beta Phi social sorority found
ed and still maintains the- Settle
ment School in Gatlinburg, and
offers courses in weaving, furni
ture making basket weaving and
other handicrafts to the children
and adults of the community in
addition to a complete public
school curriculum. Many families
in that area of the Great Smokies
are partially supported by the sale
of their handiwork.!
Items on display and for sale
at the tea will Include handwoven
place mats, stoles., baby jackets,
blankets and bibs, handmade chil
dren's furniture and dolls, fire
place brooms, handwoven baskets
and handwoven aprons.
