investigated In 1052 and was
dropped without further action.
Now it is revived with a hearing
set for Oct. 27, Just live days be
lore the election. No one can be
blind to the significance of these
facts," Morgan said.
Ragnor Johnson, real estate com
missioner, has maintained there Is
nothing political in the charges be
ing filed at this time.
Morgan also said that the "at
tack" on Ullman had been ar
ranged by a private power com
pany because Ullman heads an or
ganization fighting for federal con
struction of a high dam at Hells
Canyono.
Meantime Sen. Wallace P. Ben-,
nelt (R-Utahl speaking at Baker,
urged reelection of Republican
candidates Sen. Ouy Cordon and
Rep. Sem Coon. Bennett cited the
Important congressional committee
posts held by both men and said
they had proven themselves to be
hard workers.
Cordon and his Democratic op
ponent. Richard L. Neuberger,
both praised the alms of the United
Nations in separato speeches Tues
day. Neuberger, speaking at Oregon
State College, said that support of
the U.N. was a cardinal feature of
American foreign policy.
Cordon, addressing a rally at
Hillboro, said: "I feel there is no
doubt we will come to the day
when the lion will lie down with
the lamb through the work of the
United Nations."
But Neuberger, in his Corvallls
talk, said that Cordon had recently
said In effect, that there has de
veloped a tendency to regard the
U. S, treasury as a Joint checking
account for the U. N.
This, he said, stirs opposition to
the U. N. and "it is evident that
Cordon follows his mentor. Sen.
Knowland, in tending toward
American withdrawal from the
U. N." Foreign policy has become
a major Issue in the campaign, he
said, because 'Cordon has sided
wilh the isolationists."
Earlier at a Portland luncheon
club meeting. Cordon contradicted
statements by Democrats that
Morse was responsible for prelim
inary moves that led to construc
tion of The Dalles Dam.
Cordon said funds for the dam
had been requested in President
Truman's budget message months
before Morse claimed to have
urged the budget request.
