tension Unit was held September
30 at 2 p.m. in the chufch building.
Delores Steffanson was in charge.
The year's program was planned.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Steffanson and Mrs. Carl
Chase. The next meeting will be on
creative embroidery, October 14 at
the home of Mrs. Dave Campbell.
Time will be 10:30 a.m.

Draws Fines
Hamburger sold in violation of
the Oregon pure food laws have cost
dealers $050 in court fines in the
past few months, the state depart
ment of agriculture reports.
Since June, the departments di
vision of food and dairies has been
running laboratory tests on sam
ples of hamburger picked up
throughout the state. It found four
samples containing cereals, 33 con
taining preservatives and one wiih.

In 30 court cases resulting from
tills sampling, 27 defendants plead
ed guilty, and three forfeited bail
without appearing in court. In ad
dition, district attorneys warned
nine meat markets found to be
using benzoates in their hamburg
er that another violation would re
sult in & court complaint.
Of the $650 assessed in fines,
140 was suspended. Fines . ranged

the panel and the subjects they
discussed were Dolly Bunco,
grouping:' Lola Horn, phonics;
Irene Jelinek, flash cards; Oer
trude Braman, experience charft.
Hostesses for the coffee hour
were teachers of the Shasta
