Bergerac, a handsome Basque
from Biarritz, has had two awak
enings in his young hie. One came
at IT when he saw Paris for the
!lrst time. The second was at 26
when he visited Hollywood.
Both events have bad a profound
influence on bis life. He told me
about them as we lunched in a
Sunset strip cafe.
"I hat) li-ved all my life in
Biarritz, which is a very quiet
town." he explained, "except for
the two months of year when the
international set make it their re
sort. Otherwise I had seen little
of life.
"I was just a boy when I went
away to Paru for college. What
an awakening! Such excitement!

I graduated in law when I was 21
and left for my year in the Army.
"When I returned to Paris. It
