Ranger's Story

TULELAKE .The September
issue of Blue Book, now on sale
at magazine stands carries an in
teresting factual article on "Fire."
written by Henry L. Bunstein and
his wife, both now employed at
tne Tuieiake Ranger Station.
The story relates Bunstein's ex.
periences as a fire tighter, in a
simple. Interesting account. The
magazine also features the story
on the cover. Bunstein is now em
ployed as a forest guard, Mrs.
Bunstein as a clerk dispatcher.
They first visited Tuieiake dur
ing the summers of 1952-1953
serving as look - out firemen on
Timber Mountain Lookout, 30
miles south of here. This is a sta
tion on the Doublehead District of
the Modoc National Forest under
supervision of George Fischer, dis
trict ranger. t
Bunstein is a graduate of the
University of Delaware.- He re
ceived his masters degree in Eng
lish from Western Reserve Univer
sity, Cleveland, Ohio,' later taught
there and worked toward his doc
torate. War service and the desire to
write, cut short his studies. Mr.
and Mrs. Bunstein came to the
Modoc forest and have found the
forest service "a gratifying escape
from too many cities." '

apron to be sold later at the club's
apron and oooked food sale. Pro
ceeds of the sale will go to the
Lew ambulance which is to be pur
chased by the 20-30 Club.

meeting and anyone having a pal

The winner of the local contest,
sponsored Jointly by Ballard and
Bennett Motors, La Pointe's, the
Klamath Theaters and KFJI, will

promoted by the Oregon State
