MRS. HOWARD HROMADA surveys a "runt" tomato plan left in the hot frame when other
plants were set out this spring. Protected from the cold the plant developed into a giant. It
is an Early Wonder variety and already has produced ripe, tomatoes. The plant was raised at
the family home at 4626 Shasta Way.

Anti-American demonstrations and
other riots In the wake of Presi
dent Cetulio Vargas's suicide left
three dead and 30 Injured in Bra
zil today.
U.S. diplomatic buildings and
firms, as well as newspapers which
opposed Vargas, were major tar
gets. Rioters burned the ottice of the
Diarios Associados publishing and
radio chain In Porto Alegre. on
the Atlantic Coast, heavily dam
aged the U.S. consulates In Bclc
Horizonte and Porto Alegre. and
hurled rocks through the win
dows of the heavily guarded U.S.
Embassy in Rio.
Many rioters, apparently :
sparked by the Communists as!
well as traditional anti-U.S. feel
ings, blamed the United States for:
fomenting the crisis which brought
Vargas' downfall.
