ath Basin Potato Festival, October
22 and 23, were discussed, and a
meeting to promote plans for the
annual event will be held soon. Mrs.
Halbert Wilson has volunteered to
write and direct a program of en
tertainment for the festival ban
quet. Harvey Denham, Don Craw
ford, George Milne, W. O. Brickner
and Howard Dewey, were named
on the committee to assist Mrs.
Wilson.

told of some of the interesting peo
ple he met in Eugene while at
tending summer school; one of
whom was Dr. Ralph Bunche, who
visited there several weeks ago.

Lava Beds Tour

TULELAKE Historical tours mt
the Lava Beds National Monument
will continue through August, start
ing each Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Sun
day, August 22, Dr. Keith Murray,
historian will demonstrate the mak
ing of arrowheads ao part of the
tour. Those planning to go should
meet at the north entrance.
Between 16-35 visitors are attend
ing each tour, according to monu
ment official Ray Knox.
There will be a visit to the petro
glyphs Sunday, August 22, starting
at 9:30 a.m.
A slide show of mammals in the
monument is scheduled for Mush
pot Cave from 3 to ft p.m. Cali
fornia time.
A recent visitor to the Lava Beds
was O. C. Applegate Jr. son of
the famous Captain Applegate of
early history in Klamath County.
Mr. and Mrs. Applegate now live
in San Francisco where Applegate
is affiliated with the Standard Oil
Company.
