nema Hotel is Charles W.
Malin, San Francisco, who
took over the Main Street
hotel this week. Prior to com
ing to Klamath Falls, Malin
was executive assistant at the
Bellevue Hotel in San Fran,
cisco where he had been for
the past 15 years. He is a
member of the board of direc-'
tors of Bonifaces, West Coast
hotel association, and has
served as liaison chairman for
the Hotel Greeters of Ameri
ca, Charter Four.
Camp Fire Girl
Outing Slated
CHILOQUIN Swimming, an
overnight hike, a picnic at Collier
Park has been scheduled for the
Camp Fire Girls group led by
Mrs? Dwight Kircher and Mrs.
Victor Sisson.
Of the 15 girls in the group. 8
have attended a one week session
of camp at Lake of thn Woods.
They were Barbara Sisson,' Nor
ma souers, Sharon Wilder. Klam

Swanson, Agatha and Doris Ann

Chiloquin residents, gave the mon
ey for some deserving girl in
memory of their daughter Bar
bara, who passed away a number
of years ago and at the time of
death belonged to a Chiloquin
group of Camp Fire Girls led by
Mrs. Koy (jienger.
The week before camp, 11 of the
group - and both leaders had gone
on an overnight hike to Larkin
Creek. It was . the first camping
experience lor three or the girls.
At most of the summer meet
ings the girls are going to Denton
Park' and swimming under ' the
direction of Patty Hescock, Fort
iuamatn, Horizon Club member.

On Monday, July 19, about
eighteen members and guests of
the Evergreen Garden Club and
Juniper Branch met at Moore Park
for a picnic.
During the morning session the
program for the following year
was discussed and voted upon.
Among the year's activities will be
Civil Defense
it Formed
A new mobilized civil defense
unit being organized has caught
like the proverbial wild fire ac
cording to civil defense ofiicials.
Vic Douglas U civil defense
deputy director in charge of the
mobilized unit, which is composed
of four wheel drive vehicles.
The Intention of the local civil
defense unit Is to register all or
as many as possible of such ve
hicles for use in a civil defense or
any other emergency which may
arise in Klamath County.
Chairmen in each community
are in charge of registering the ve
hicles in their vicinity and con
tacting owners In case of emer
gency.

Man Accused
Of Burglary
J.ames John Ryan, 74-year-old
alleged prowler, waived prellmi.
nary hearing Monday afternoon
when arraigned before District
Judge D. E. Van Vactor on a
burglary charge. He was ordered
held for the grand jury and reman
ded to, the county jail in lieu of
S2.000 bond.
Ryan, who said he came to
Klamath Falls from San Diego.
California. Is accused of breaking
Into Dick's Drive-In. According to
District Attorney Frank Alderson.
Ryan was arrested at the scene
by city police.

Juniper Branch to be held on Aug

Club are going to assist with a
meeting on flower arrangement to
be presented to the Klamath Coun
ty 4-H Flower Club members. Mrs.
Joe Schuli, newly appointed Junior
garden chairmen of the Klamath
District, will be In charge of the
meeting, assisted by Mrs. Charles
Thurnian. It is planned to design
this meeting to help the club mem
bers to prepare better exhibits for
the coming 4-H Livestock Show.
A delicious potluck luncheon was
served at noon followed by a social
hour.

3. (Popi Warner. 83, is back In
a hospital and doctors describe his
condition as serious but not crit
ical. The former great football coach
at Carlisle and Stanford entered
Palo Alto hospital a little more
than two weeks ago and left after
being operated on for a tumor of
the throat. Since re-entering last
Wednesday, he has had three blood
transfusions.

Hurt In Crash
A light panel truck operated by
Jack Pinson, 1134 Rochester Road.
New Westminster, B.C., crashed
into the rear of a Consolidated
Frelghtways truck and trailer
near the North Chiloquin Junction
on Highway 97 about mid-afternoon
Monday, Oregon State Po
lice reported.
The truck had been flagged
down by a member of the high
way . maintenance crew working
on the' road when the crash oc
curred.
Pinson told officers he could not
see the truck because of the dust
and crashed into the rear at an
estimated speed of 55 to 60 mph

B.C., a passenger in the Pinson
vehicle, was asleep In the rear ot
the panel at the time of the crash.
She was thrown into the front
seat by the impact.
Kaler's Ambulance Service
brought the Canadian couple to
the Klamath Valley Hospital where
Pinson was treated and released.
Miss Bergman was still confined
this morning. Her condition was
uot considered serious.

up Tuesday in the Midwest after
another day of comfortable tem
peratures and clear skies in much
of the nation.
Prevailing fine weather was
forecast to continue in the Mid
west, but it was expected to be
a few degrees hotter.
Texas continued to be the hottest
area in the nation Monday with
readings above 100 general across
the state. Austin had an all-time
hlnh of 109. It was 106 In San
Antonio and 101 at Brownsville, on
the Mexican border.
Dry weather and temperatures
generally in the 90s 'ruled over
(he plains states. Western South
Dakota had 100 degree tempera
tures, however.
A few scattered thundershowers
fell last night in an area from
Northern Minnesota through south

Identified

said Tuesday that three U. 8.
planes, all from tho carrier Fhlip-
pine Sea, took part In the air
fight that sent two Communist
fighters down near Hainan Island
Sunday night.
A brief report from the carrier
Tuesday said that two of the pilots
were flying Douglas Skyraiders
and that the third was piloting a
corsair ntgnt iignter. The dis
patch said all three pilots and
planes were Involved in the battle,
but did not further specify which
one or ones actually snot down the
Reds.
The Skyralder pilots were iden
tified as Lt. Roy M. Tathanv Del
Mar, Calif., and Ens. Richard R.
Crooks, Los Angeles, Calif.
The Corsair pilot was Lt. Cmdr,
Edgar B. Salsig, Menlo Park,
Calif.
The propellor-driven planes, un
der protective cover by Jet fight
ers, were searching for survivors
of the British airliner shot down
by Communist fighters near Hal
nan Island July 23.
