Scripts For Star's Movies

and ten times a day the phones
ring in the Wayne-Fellows office
and 60 of these calls, on the aver
age, are from tvriters or agents
with stories they ' think will make
John Wayne movies.
' Bob Fellows,, who Is Wayne's
partner, talks to every one of
the 50 and at least listens. But,
being cautious, he doesn't buy
many stories. The few he and
Wayne have bought and filmed

Swimming, boating and first aid
enthusiasts from the eight west
ern states are rapidly filling the
student enrollment lists for the na
tional aquatic school of the Amer
ican Red Cross to be held at Lake
of the Woods- August 22 to Sep
tember 1. The local Red Cross
office has received information
that students who wish to "live
out' of the camp can register for
the instruction by a payment of
a $15.00 fee for the ten days in
struction. Fee schedule for meals
at the camp includes $1.00 break
fast, $1.00 lunch and $1.25 for din
ner for those who may wish to
take part of their meals with the
student group. It is hoped that
many local residents, particularly
Lake of the Woods home owners,
will avail themselves of the oppor
tunity. Students must be 18 years of
age; if they register for aquatics
they should be good swimmers.

swimming, life saving, boating,
canoeing, small craft, First Aid
and accident prevention. li there

"The former Marine colonel, An
drew Gear, who wrote 'Sea Chase,'
told us about an Incident in Korea,
so he's now writing 'Give Away
Hill' for us."
Wayne may star in both Korean
stories, but not necessarily.'

will vote on wheat marketing
quotas on Friday, July 23, accord
ing to County Extension Agent C.
A. Henderson. All wheat growers
who will have over 15 acres of
wheat next year are eligible to
vote. Growers having 15 acres or
less won't be affected by quotas
There will be two voting places
In Klamath County. All growers
in the Merrill, Malln, Keno, Mid
land, Klamath Falls, Henley and
Fort Klamath areas will vote In
the county ASC office in the Tower
Theater building, 2607 South Sixth
Street.
Growers in the Poe Valley, Br
nanza. Dairy, Hlldebrande, Bly,
Langell Valley and the Sprague

The Russians have unveiled, a
new weapon in the cold war.
It Is the normal look. i
Trapped in a monumental bur
eaucracy, the Soviets are attempt
ing to convince the world that they
are just as normal as anybody
else, if not more so.
Outside their borders they have
had some success. Their cultural
offensive has prospered. Dozens of
Soviet writers, artists and athletes
have sallied forth under unobtru
sive surveillance to spread the
word that the Soviet Union's reg
ime is. interested only in making
the world one big, happy family.
In turn, the Russians have dusted
off the welcome mat for many a
tourist from abroad,
The Russians have pulled the
rug from under writers and scien
tists who in Stalin's day flourished
by toadying to his pet fetishes. It
Is now proper for a Russian scien
tist to speak respectfully of Albert
Einstein's relativity theory and
Darwin s tneories of evolution.
Trofim Lysenko, the biologist who
made himself a feared scientific
dictator by hewing strictly to the
Scalln line, now Is in semidisgrace.
All this and much more of the
same is good Russian propaganda
abroad. In sucn a background, Rus
sian arguments become more per
suasive, Russian protestations if
peaceful coexistence become more
convincing.
Internally, Russia's social devel
opment is struggling toward the
point passed by Western nations
somewhere in the Victorian era.
A Victorian morality quite alien
to robust Russians Is being Im
posed from on high.
The ruling Communist regime Is
attempting the impossible in try
ing to persuade Russians to avoid
alcoholic stimulants the same
stimulants downed with such vigor
