overlooking one good practice
says John Berg, local soil conser

Many ranchers through coopera

have seeded dryland grass-legume
field trials. Results of these look
very favorable. For areas where
rainfall Is around 11 to 12 Inches,
such as Yonna and Foe Valleys,
crested wheatgrass and Ladak or
Nomad alfalfa are showing good
results. In areas where moisture
Is above 14 Inches, such as the
Sprague River district, alternate
row seedlngs of pubescent wheal
grass and Ladak or Nomad alfal
fa should give a higher yielding
pasture than the crested wheat
grass. Berg stated.
For the past several years the
local A8C office has shared the
cost ot dryland seedlngs. Ranchers
who are planning on seeding dry
land grasses next spring should
consult with L. A. Bruner at the
ASC office to find out what their
specifications are. For seeding In
formation farmers may contact
the county extension agent or the
local ASO office.
