One of the most unusual bits of
Information about the chukars also
came from Mr. Webb. He men
tioned observing two male birds
fighting until they drew blood. So

Webb finally had to get oil his

trail to gel past. As soon as they
were off the trail, the chukars Im
mediately returned to their llghl.
This Is unusual since literature on
the- birds mentions they are pug
nacious in the spring, but there

Even In the crowded conditions ex

pen together, there has been little

Scattered reports from other
areas also Indicate that the chu
kars have successfully come
through the winter. During May
and June. 2.318 adult birds that
were used tor breeders earlier in
the spring were released In east
ern Oregon. These birds were all

Plans are to release a total ol
10.000 birds this year and continue
protecting them until a harvest
