State grcuture Board
Meets fn Kamath Fafs
The State Board of Agriculture,
at its semi-annual meeting here
Friday, voted unanimously to sub-
. nut to uie 1855 legislature me ur
cent housing needs o( the State
Department of Agriculture. This
announcement was made by E.
Riddell Lage. Hood River, chair
man of the seven man board.
Ha also said the board will:
1. Prepare a complete state
ment covering the essential re
quirements of the department on
housing faculties for presentation
to agricultural groups and release
lor the public generally.
2. Name a small committee cf
agriculture leaders which it will
ask to meet at the DOA headquar
ters in Salem to go over and study
the existing facilities. The commit
tee will be asied to give particular
attention to action which might be
taken to relieve the present con
gestion and shortages which hamp
er the efficient service which the
board and the department believes
must be rendered to the state.
Lage said names of the commit
tee would be released as soon as
the committee Is completed. He
said the Oregon Agricultural Re
search and Advisory Council has al
ready pledged its cooperation in
providing adequate housing for the
aepanmeni activities. At present
the department occupies the second
floor of the Agricultural Building
and two dwelling houses within a
block, of the main building.
Present inadequate physical con'
dttions were only one of the angles
the board scrutinized before taking
its unanimous action to ask the le
gislature for relief. Lage said.

Expanding its operations greatly
in the past year since moving its
headquarters to Eugene, Warren's
Proved Sire Service now offers
twice-a-day service in 12 Oregon
counties, according to co-owners
Med Cahall and Chuck Warren.
Organized in Klamath Palls in
IMS, Warren's claims to be the
first such organization in Oregon to
offer service from all proved sires,
and the lirst to give free service
to 4-H and FPA members' cows.

policy of the Eisenhower adminis
tration to place more responsibility
for meeting the needs of the public
upon state and local governments.
This means that agriculture as well
as other industries must be served
more by state and local units: this
in itself will put an expanded work
load to the state Department of
Agriculture.

CIO Steel Wage
Talks Recessed
PITTSBURGH MV-Contract negotiations-
between the CIO United
Steel Workers and 0. S. Steel
Corp. are recessed today, subject
to call at any time.
The committees had been meet
ing daily since last Saturday with
the exception of the sabbath.
The union is seeking an unspeel'
fied wage boost for its members
who now earn between 92.14 and
J2.24 an hour.
The union also is asking numer
ous contract changes. Most Impor
tant are demands for a guaranteed
annual wage and Improved pension
and hospitalization programs.
The unions' contracts with basic
steel, employing some 600,000 USW
dues payers, expire midnight June
30.
