city pollco on a drunk charge
early Wednesday morning and
placed In the drunk tank at the
city Jail, was later rushed to a
local licplinl for medical treat
ment after he had attempted to
tako his own life, officers reported
this morning.
Kenneth Beckett, 1025 Wilcox.
I.os Angeles, who gave his local
address as the Coity Hotel, cut
his throat and alashed both wrists
with a Major blado he had con
cealed In his clothing.
A physician was called and
Beckett taken to the hospital
whore 25 stitches were taken In
Ms neck and several , In each
wrist. Following treatment he
was returned to jull.

Community Presbyterian Church
held Its June business meeting
Thursday. June 3, In Uie social
hall of the church. The meeting

dent, Mrs.' Florence Wilson, who

It was voted to send S2S toward
on honorary membership in a
foreign mission. Money was desig
nated to go for purchase of badly
needed medical supplies.

the next business meeting, July
1, to replace Mrs. Juanlta Fabl

Oregon firm Wednesday In demand
for a wage Increase.
Boom men, affiliated with the
Woodworkers, left their Jobs at the
Oregon Pulp and Paper Co. at
Salem, They also, put up a picket
line at the Jim's Oswego boom,
south of Portland.
A. P. Hartung. Woodworkers'
president, said the strike would
affect ouVr firms rafting their logs
to Oswego.
The Woodworkers also went on
strike last week: against five Ore
gon plywood linns In demand for
a pay boost.
These walkouts stemmed from
negotiations that were conducted
apart from the general negotiations
at Portland.
