Girls Hold
Council Fire
MERRILL Merrill Bluebirds,
Camp Fire end Horiion Club girls
held their Grand Council Fire on
Friday evening May 28, at the Mer
rill recreation hall, with a large
group of parents and friends In at
tendance.
Mrs. Ebcr E. Kilpatrtck, guar
dian of the Fire, gave the Wohelo
call to open the ceremonies. Fol
lowing the processional, led by
Mrs. George Rankin, and the
pledge to the flag, led by a group
of Merrill Boy Scouts, candles ot
"our community," "our home,"
"our nation," and "our world"
were lighted by Glenda Story, Bev
erly Moore, Margaret Quails, and
Bonnie Chojnacky.
Mrs. Kilpatrick gave the wel
come and introduced Mrs. Naomi
French, executive director ot
Camp Fire, and Mrs. Don West
chairman of the Merrill Leader's
Association.
Responding to the roll call were
the following groups,, and their
leaders: Horizon Club girls, Mrs.
Glen Chase: Ta-wan-ka, Mrs. Horn'
er Evertson; O-la-ku-ye, Mrs. Dale
west; Wa-han-ka. Mrs. John Deg
nan; Ta-wa-si, Ms. Jack Ratlin;
Rose Blubirds. Mrs. V. O. Brick-
ner; and the Periwinkle Bluebirds,
, Mrs. Robert Walker.
Mrs. Don West's 4th grade Blue
birds "flew up" to Camp Fire girls,
and were presented their red ties
by Dr. F. E. Trotman, represent
ing the Lions Club, who each year

Mrs. Dale West's O-ta-ku-ye
group, has completed the require
ments for Firemakers rank. Donna
Conner, Donna Carson, Judith Dew
ey, Bonnie Chojnacky, Gloria Ca
han. Margaret Quails, Mary Mc
Cullough, Glenda Story, and Bev
erly Moore, started In Camp Fire
together, and their leader ex
pressed the wish that they would
all go on to achieve Camp Fire's
highest honor, that of Torch bearer.
Mrs. Warren Fruits, chairman ot
the mint sale, reported that local
girls bad sold 600 boxes of mints

St Augustine's Church Sunday eve
ning, May 30.
The nine girls and three boys en
tered the church to the strains of
'Procession of the Magi," played
by Nancy Dewey, church organist.
